FlexStaff is Hiring a Certified Sterile Processing Technician- Ambulatory Surgery Center Near Huntington, NY

Our client is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to join their team at their state-of-the-art Ambulatory Surgery Center. This is a per diem/contract position with a great schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm. No nights or weekends needed. The ideal candidate will have experience with different types of scopes: the Ebus, Olympus scope, LFV, Bronchi Video scope and the GI/Endo scope. Must have Endoscope reprocessing experience by hand and using Scope Buddy. Must have experience with procedure room assist and be responsible for a variety of instrumentation decontamination, sterilization, packaging, inventory, and distribution tasks according to established department policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instrumentation Decontamination & Sterilization:
  • Disassemble, clean, sterilize, reassemble, and package sterile supplies according to specifications and manufacturer instructions.
  • Follow department procedures to use the appropriate sterilization method for various types of instrumentation.
  • Operation of Sterilization Equipment:
  • Operate washers, sterilizers, ultrasonic machines, steam and ethylene oxide sterilizers, heat sealers, and additional equipment during sterilization procedures.
  • Instrument Management:
  • Adhere to instrument count sheets for surgical sets and case carts.
  • Cover and rotate trays and set per sterile storage guidelines.
  • Retrieve used trays, instruments, and equipment from various surgical and clinical areas for decontamination.
  • Quality Control & Safety:
  • Follow safety protocols to ensure no injury to self/others, including proper body mechanics and wearing protective apparel during decontamination procedures.
  • Examine instruments and patient care equipment for cleanliness, proper assembly, and functionality.
  • Identify malfunctioning items, record related information, and promptly notify the supervisor or biomedical engineer.
  • Communication & Coordination:
  • Communicate with perioperative staff regarding related instrument needs.
  • Transport sterile supplies to assigned surgical and clinical locations.
  • Receive and fill requisitions from hospital departments and nursing units.
  • Inventory Management:
  • Assist in ordering, stocking, and maintaining department inventory levels.
  • Perform required duties to maintain a contaminant-free work environment.
  • Documentation & Compliance:
  • Document and maintain records of daily activities according to department policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to AORN, AAMI, and Joint Commission standards (e.g., biological, chemical, and mechanical monitoring) in the performance of duties.
  • Participate in department quality control programs and in-service training, as required.
  • Additional Duties:
  • Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Sterile processing certification (CRCST or CSPD) OR provisional certification (CRCST), required.
  • Must complete minimum annual continuing education credits required by NY State AND additional continuing education credits required to maintain certification status.
  • Prior experience processing surgical information, preferred.
  • Ability to lift/carry 25 pounds, required. Manual dexterity, ability to stand, bend, lift and/or reach for extended periods of time, required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbally and in writing) and follow oral and/or written instructions, required.

Job Types: Contract, Per diem

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
