JOB SUMMARY The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician is responsibility for the cleaning, sterilization, distribution, and recording of patient reusable supplies and equipment and the decontamination and assembly of instruments for the OR and throughout the Hospital and Mercy Family clinics.

The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician is responsible for the OR case carts being properly setup and assures that all the instruments necessary to do the procedure are on the cart, ready for surgical use.

The Sterile Processing Instrument Tech is responsible under the direction of a specific OR clinical leader in a specific area for instrument inventory, ordering, vendor and repair of instruments.

Cooperates and communicates with and accepts direction from the Director of Sterile Processing, Surgical Services, Sterile Processing supervisor and OR clinical leaders as it relates to the preparation and distribution of surgery supplies and case cart setups on a daily basis.

B. Provides accurate inventory of loaner instrument brought into the hospital by the company representative to be used in the OR.

V. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS A. Education : 1. High school diploma or equivalent required. 2. Preferred CRCST (Certified Registered Central Supply Tech) Certificate after the 2nd year of employment 3.

Preferred CST (Certified Surgical Tech) Certificate, will be accepted. B. Experience 1. None required C. Special Skills, Competencies, and Aptitudes 1.

3. Detailed task orientated individual regarding work. 4. Ability to meet the department on call demands. 5. Must be able to read, write and / or speak English.

1. Completes the following mandatory courses (check all that apply) : Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association;

or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintains current status.

Must provide proof of Mandatory Reporting for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training prior to employment or within 6 months of hire and maintain current status per State of Iowa guidelines Completes Mandatory Reporting : Child and Dependent Adult Abuse requirement within 6 months of hire and renews this requirement every 5 years.

Completes Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.

Completes Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.

Completes Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.

Completes MANDT Training within 6 months of hire and maintains current status. Completes Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.

Complete assigned ECCO modules within 6 months of hire. (for CCU only) Completes Cardiac Dysrhythmias and Management class or equivalent within 3 months of hire, and annual skill validation for Cardiac Dysrhythmias
