Florida East Coast Railway is Hiring a Transportation Manager Near Miami, FL

Directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in makeup and break­up of trains and switching inbound and outbound traffic of rail­road yard by performing the following duties personally or through sub­ordinate supervisors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Reviews train schedules and switching orders, and observes traffic move­ment in yard to determine which tracks can be made available to ac­commodate inbound and outbound traffic.
  • Directs routing of inbound and outbound traffic to specific tracks.
  • Reviews waybills or other shipping records indicating material to be load­ed or unloaded, tonnage of cargo, type of carrier, and planned routes.
  • Provides instruction concerning switching of cars, makeup and breakup of trains, and routing of inbound and outbound traffic to ensure safe and efficient conduct of yard activities.
Supervisory Responsibilities.
  • Directly supervises varying numbers of train service employees as­sign­ed to yard crews as well as through freight and/or local crews oper­at­ing into and out of the terminal/yard.
  • Carries out supervisory re­spon­si­bilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and ap­pli­cable laws.
  • Responsi­bilities include training employees; planning, as­signing, and directing work; apprais­ing performance; addressing com­plaints and re­solving problems.
Qualification Requirements.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education And/Or Experience
  • Minimum of two years’ college education, or equivalent from two‑year col­lege or technical school, in related transportation fields preferred but may be waived; six months’ experience and/or training as a yard­mas­ter preferred but not mandatory.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, pro­fessional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regula­tions. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and proce­dure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to ques­tions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the gen­er­al public.
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, us­ing whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to com­pute rate, ratio, and percent.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid con­clusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical in­struc­tions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several ab­stract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS
  • Must have current driver’s license.
Other Skills And/Or Abilities.
  • Must have completed engineer’s certification program; must be familiar with federal and local regulations regarding train operations.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near mov­ing mechanical parts and in high, precarious places.
