Job Description: The Public Schools of Brookline seeks a Middle School Math Teacher for Grade Eight, working at the Florida Ruffin Ridley K-8 School . This is a full-time, 1 year position.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Demonstrating appropriate long and short term preparation for classroom instruction

• Holding high expectations for all students and serving as a facilitator of student learning

• Organizing and using a variety of teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technology to maximize the learning of each child, individually and in group settings

• Continuously assessing student progress, providing students and parents with specific feedback, and using the results to adjust instruction as needed

• Providing opportunities for academic support and challenge

• Taking responsibility for teaching the district learning expectations

• Demonstrating an understanding of how knowledge in the subject areas is created, organized, and linked to other disciplines and life experiences

• Keeping current in the fields of Math and Science, innovative teaching strategies and learning research; sharing learning with others; and applying what they learn in the classroom

• Collaborating with colleagues to examine student data, plan curriculum, and ensure appropriate learning experiences for all students 

• Establishing and maintaining a functional, attractive, orderly, and safe classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and builds a sense of community

Required Qualifications:

• Knowledge about Middle School philosophy and the developmental needs of adolescents

• Strong Math content knowledge

• Ability to differentiate instruction and assess learning using a variety of methods

• A strong foundation in student-centered pedagogy

• Excellent classroom management skills

• Bachelor's Degree

• DESE Math certification, 5-8 

• SEI endorsement
