The Tax Manager reports to the Tax Principal and works closely with the other employees in the firm.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Tax return preparation and review: Prepare and/or review individual, fiduciary, gift, partnership, and corporate tax returns, including preparation of work papers; preparation of tax projections and related estimated payments; analyze client information and offer recommendations for reducing client tax liabilities.
Perform tax research.
Assist with tax notice responses and audit defense.
Education to staff on tax issues.
Supervise, train and mentor associates and interns on tax projects.
General accounting for client business’ to be used in preparing income tax returns, including preparation of trial balances and related adjusting journal entries, preparing deposits, and distribution requests.
Stay current on latest tax law changes. Take advantage of continuing education opportunities.
Assist with general administrative functions of the tax department.
Proactively interact with key client management to gather information, resolve tax related problems, and make recommendations for business and process improvements.
Special projects, as necessary.
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
Minimum 3 years’ experience in tax preparation.
Excellent knowledge of federal and state tax laws and regulations.
Strong knowledge of Excel, Word, and QuickBooks.
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with colleagues and clients.
Strong reconciliation and analysis skills.
