To increase the number of campers served and generate revenue that supports Flying Horse Farm’s (FHF) mission, the External Relations Manager is a strategic collaborator with a proven track record for business development. They are responsible for building and maintaining a pipeline of impact partners, taking initiative to create a roadmap of potential camp collaborators. They recognize potential, lead from a place of opportunity, and understand bringing more camp experiences on-site starts with relationships. Ultimately, they are responsible for sourcing Impact Partners and growing Leadership Development Program partners.

This person is skilled at managing details while also constantly seeing the bigger and long-term vision. They bring a genuine and curious approach to cross-departmental collaboration. They are self-aware, innovative, creative, adaptable, and driven by relationships. They pivot easily, are a self-starter, and take pride in making vision a reality.

Requirements:

Responsibilities

  • Business and organizational development identifies and pursues partnership opportunities with organizations that align with FHF’s mission and values. Achieves this by:
  1. Generating revenue for the organization through impact partnerships.
  2. Discovering and pursuing new opportunities for partnerships, funding, and program expansion.
  3. Develops and implements business development strategies to meet organizational goals.
  4. Collaborates to align business development initiatives with the organization’s mission and strategic plan.
  5. Negotiates and manages contracts and agreements with partners and funders.
  • Drives relationships: develops and maintains strong relationships with children's hospitals, community organizations, higher education institutions and other relevant stakeholders to promote awareness of FHF and its mission.
  1. Identifies key influencers and decision-makers within children's hospitals, higher education institutions, and community organizations, and establish ongoing communication and engagement with them.
  • Collaborates cross functionally to ensure success.
  1. Marketing and Communications: integrates with the marketing team to develop effective materials and messaging to promote FHF programs and initiatives. This may include writing content for newsletters, social media posts, website updates, and other communication channels.
  2. Serves as a liaison between FHF and external partners, addressing inquiries, concerns, and requests for collaboration in a timely and professional manner.
  3. Drives pipeline for camper recruitment by collaborating with the admissions team to develop strategies for engaging campers and increasing enrollment numbers.
  4. Coordinates outreach efforts to reach potential campers and their families, including attending community events, organizing informational sessions, and leveraging social media and other communication channels.
  • Fosters a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages continuous improvement.
  • Represents FHF at community events, conferences, and networking functions to promote the organization's mission and build relationships with potential partners and supporters.
  1. Organizes and leads presentations, workshops, and informational sessions to educate stakeholders about FHF’s mission, programs, and opportunities.
  • Develops and maintains a database of community partners and other stakeholders, ensuring accurate and up-to-date contact information and communication preferences.
  • Tracks and analyzes relevant metrics and data to assess the effectiveness of community relations efforts and make data-driven recommendations for improvement. Monitors similar nonprofit efforts and identifies best practices to enhance organizational performance.

Required Skills & Experience

  • bachelor's degree in business development, nonprofit management, or a related field.
  • 3 years in development, nonprofit work or a related role.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven track record of securing funding and developing successful partnerships.
  • Passion for social impact and commitment to the mission of Flying Horse Farms.
  • Adaptability and resilience in the face of challenges and changing priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for the mission and values of Flying Horse Farms.
  • Experience working with children or in the nonprofit sector is preferred but not required.
