DescriptionPosition: Terminal Facilities Maintenance Worker II
Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Terminal Manager
Location: San Bernardino International Airport
Pay Range: $22.70 - $27.10 DOE with benefits
DEFINITIONUnder general supervision, performs a wide variety of routine to complex work in the construction, modification, maintenance, and repair of airport terminal facilities, systems, and equipment, that may include but are not limited to: electrical systems, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, elevators and escalators, automatic/overhead doors, baggage conveyor systems, fire suppression systems, water distribution systems; uses and operates a variety of manual and power tools and light to heavy power driven equipment; and performs related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReceives general supervision from the Terminal Manager. Exercises no direct supervision over staff. May provide technical and functional direction to less experienced staff.
Essential DutiesThe following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth.
  • Inspects and troubleshoots terminal facilities, systems, and equipment for proper operation, safety issues, structural integrity, appearance, and resolves or schedules repairs.
  • Performs maintenance, modification, and repair of terminal facilities, systems, and equipment including but not limited to: high and low voltage electrical systems, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, elevators and escalators, jet bridges, GSE equipment, ticketing equipment, lighting systems, roofs, automatic/overhead doors, baggage conveyor systems, fire suppression systems, water distribution systems, plumbing systems, generator systems, sheet metal, carpet, tile, paint, doors, locks, ceiling, and other related work as required.
  • Operates machine tools such as grinders, drills, power saws, planers, plumbing apparatus, and various hand tools consistent with safety rules and accepted operating practices; inspects tools and equipment to perform construction, repair, and maintenance of buildings, facilities, and equipment.
  • Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, sheet metal, and other structures.
  • Reads plans and performs work for new construction and/or remodeling projects including electrical, gas, and mechanical systems; plumbing; roofing; and painting.
  • Operates and maintains specialized vehicles and a variety of light, medium, and heavy equipment related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of facilities.
  • Observes safe work methods and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.
  • Maintains public facilities, shop and garage areas, storage sites, and other work areas in a clean and orderly condition, including securing equipment at the close of the workday.
  • Installs street barricades and cones and controls traffic around work sites and special events to ensure safe conditions for the general public and agency workers.
  • Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions.
  • Maintains accurate logs and records of work performed and materials and equipment used.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies.
  • Establishes, maintains, and fosters positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including the public, vendors, contractors, and agency staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
RequirementsQUALIFICATIONSKnowledge Of

Education And ExperienceAny combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade and three (3) years of direct experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of facilities, systems, and equipment, or two (2) years of experience equivalent to Facilities Maintenance Worker II at the agency. Experience with aviation terminal maintenance work is preferred.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver’s License by time of appointment.
  • Successfully complete background check to obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances.
  • Completion of a 10-panel drug screen for all substances deemed illegal by the Federal Government
PHYSICAL DEMANDSMust possess mobility to work in the field; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium to heavy physical work, to work in confined spaces and around machines, to climb and descend ladders, to operate varied hand and power tools and construction equipment, and to operate a motor vehicle and visit various agency sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work and inspect work sites. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 75 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTSEmployees work in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives and contractors in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
