Position Title : Release Train Engineer
Business Unit : Technology
Reports to : Manager of Application Analysis
Position Overview :
The Release Train Engineer is an important part of our IT organization, managing software development for a product or product line.
This role will ensure agreed upon deliverables are completed incrementally in an agile / SAFe framework. The incumbent is responsible for running / executing agile release train, which typically consists of cross functional groups subdivided into multiple development teams.
They ensure all the inter / intra dependencies and risks are managed, and teams are focused on agreed upon deliverables such as working software at the end of each program increment.
Primary Responsibilities :
Facilitates work for the Agile Release Train (ART) and is responsible for program execution, software delivery, escalating impediments, managing risk, and helping drive continuous improvement for the ART.
Tracks the execution of features and capabilities through metrics across ART. Produces and presents ART level metrics on PI progress, impediments, quality and predictability.
Manages and optimizes the flow of value through the ART, facilitates ART level events (including I&A, SoS, system demo) in helping to manage risks and dependencies-escalating impediments as needed.
Ensures clear communication working alongside Scrum Masters to remove impediments and help the ART towards success in meeting its PI objectives.
Helps Product Management in their efforts to manage and prioritize the ART Feature Backlog, generate a Vision, and build a Roadmap.
Coordinates cross-train / cross-functional dependencies and activities as needed to deliver value across multiple ARTs.
Utilizes the appropriate Agile methodology (Scrum / Kanban / XP) to facilitate the ART level activities and leverages thorough understanding of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) to optimize all ART activities.
Drives consistent and valuable improvement via post-PI activities including Inspect and Adapt workshops.
Exercise leadership to promote high-performing teams and ARTs through transparency, team empowerment and continuous learning in order to promote business value delivery.
Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.
