Position: Physical Education Teacher (Middle School, Grades 5 to 8)
Compensation Rate: Pays up to $50 per hour
Reports to: Principal
Primary Teaching Responsibilities:
● Follow and support the school's policies, procedures and expectations in professional and educational matters that are set by the Principal and President. The teacher is responsible for ensuring that these policies and procedures are carried out.
● Create lesson plans based upon the curriculum standards adopted by the school. Submission of plans may be requested by the Principal.
● Administer and develop assessments to determine student competency levels and plan for student growth.
● Provide feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, goals, and expectations.
● Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, and parents for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes.
● Manage student behavior in alignment with the school discipline policies to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
● Monitor students in a variety of educational environments (i.e. classroom, school grounds, recess area, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) to assure a safe and positive learning environment.
● Participate in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions. Teachers are required to attend all staff and in-service meetings.
● Prepare and maintain appropriate records (i.e. grade book, lesson plans following scope and sequence, correspondence with parents and students, examinations and quizzes, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress.
● Facilitate Homeroom Advisory and Homework Hour, ensuring that students report in a timely manner and quietly complete their work.
● Maintain an attractive and positive learning environment conducive and related to the educational process and units and themes being taught.
● Keep a Substitute Binder up-to-date and easily accessible in the event of an unforeseen absence.
● Update grades and attendance in the online database regularly.
● Assist in the overall functioning of the school, including clean-up, program duties, class coverage, and development activities.
● Participate in parent/family school events, including Evening Under the Stars and other evening or weekend events.
● Maintain a flexible and collaborative mindset
● Teach in the academic portion of the 4 week mandatory Summer Program, if necessary.
● Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
● Commitment to the school's mission
● Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Education or relevant field of study
● Current and valid Delaware State Teaching Certificate applicable to the subject/grades being taught
● Minimum 1 years of teaching experience and/or working with students in an urban environment
● Coaching experience is highly desirable
● FBI Fingerprinting/Background Clearance REQUIRED prior to hiring
● Strong written and verbal communication skills
● Strong time management skills
● Ability to communicate effectively and positively with parents, students, and diverse stakeholders
● Knowledge of and skill with technology and Google Workspace
● Ability to speak Spanish is highly desirable, but not mandatory
Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, listen, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
