Summary

Thegoals of the Behavior Consultant-ABA are to provide clinical direction ofservices to the child, youth or young adult; along with developing andmonitoring the Individualized Treatment Plan (ITP). The Behavior Consultant-ABAapplies their specialized knowledge in Applied Behavior Analysis to assess theindividual's behaviors, design a behavioral intervention program, and monitorthe implementation of non-aversive behavioral change methods. BehaviorConsultants collect, analyze, and interpret behavioral data from treatment teammembers and adjust treatment goals accordingly to promote progress.The Behavior Consultant-ABA will also lead the treatment team and will striveto develop collaboration among all treatment team members.

LaurelLife. Behavior Consultant-ABA willaddress specific needs of the individual and family in a manner that encourageschild and family autonomy so that services can be effectively reduced anddiscontinued when the individual's behavior improves and stabilizes. Our goals are to integrate the individualinto the community as well as equip the family with the necessary skills tomaintain improvements demonstrated by the individual while receiving services. Laurel Life staff will strive to establish collaborationwithin the family, promote a family's ability to function as a cohesive,independent whole, and improve the quality of the family and individualrelationships.

Inaddition to the details and requirements for the employee listed below, LaurelLife expects the employee be committed to incorporating principles of traumainformed care in all areas of service delivery. Commitment to theseprinciples in trauma treatment will be required through attendance in trainingsand use of identified evidence based practices. Trauma informed careincludes cultural sensitivity and emphasizes a safe and respectful environmentfor all clients and staff. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide Behavior Consultation-ABA service toassigned caseload working in home, school, and community settings.
  • Develop individualized behavior modificationtreatment plans and supervise the implementation of the plans.
  • Maintain progress notes for every billablecontact. Prepare professionally writtensummaries and documents describing a client's behavior and progress inachievement of treatment plan goals.
  • Design and direct the implementation abehavioral intervention plan for the identified child.
  • Complete regularly occurring data reviews.
  • Participate in interagency treatment planmeetings as needed.
  • BC-ABA will provide clinical oversight toBehavioral Health Technician ?ABA (BHT-ABA) at the location of behavioralinterventions on a routine basis. BC-ABAwill work closely with the BHT-ABA to ensure treatment goals are beingimplemented accurately. Interaction withthe BHT-ABA can be held at any location where behavioral interventions takeplace (school, home, and/or community).
  • Develop cooperative relationships withcommunity agencies that will facilitate treatment services provided to allclients.
  • Work as a positive team member supporting theteam's mission and goals, consistently working in a trusting and cooperativemanner with fellow team members and supporting the team's common operatingapproach.
  • Accepts professional responsibility and servesas a role model for positive, pro-social behavior; modeling respect,responsibility, integrity, empathy, impulse control, emotional self-awareness,and professional boundaries.
  • Demonstrates commitment to professional growthby attending all required meetings, trainings and organizationaltrainings.
  • Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments(FBA's)- collect, quantify, and analyze data. Facilitates team meeting todiscuss data and findings. Fine tunes IBHS prescriptions based on levels ofneed.
  • Administer skills assessments and utilizesteaching/skill building curriculum (PEAK, VB-MAPP, Denver Model, ABLLS-R, etc.)
  • An individual who provides behaviorconsultation-ABA services will complete at least 16 hours of training annuallythat is approved by the PA Department of Human Services as outlined in theindividual training plan.
  • Candidate will have to successfully completeand maintain certification of ESPI training. ESPI techniques are only used incompliance with Laurel Life policy and procedure and within guidelinesestablished by third-party experts in the proper and legal use of ESPI.
  • Maintain an active valid driver's licenseissued by state in which they reside and must immediately notify theirsupervisor or Human Resources if their license is suspended or revoked for anyreason.
  • May perform other special projects or duties asrequested.

Skills

Possessspecific expertise in the areas of Autism and Applied Behavioral Analysis withthe ability to carry out individualized behavior programs using at least one ormore models of ABA (such as PEAK, Verbal Behavior, Competent Learner Model,Lovaas Model, Denver Model). Training and experience in completion ofFunctional Behavioral Assessments (FBA's). Good interpersonal skills, includingthe ability to develop effective and meaningful relationships withclients. Must be able identifyunderlying causes of problem situations, and recommend non-aversive behavioralchange methods. Must be a team player.

Requirements

  1. Licensed in the state of Pennsylvania as apsychologist, professional counselor (LPC), marriage and family therapist(LMFT), clinical social worker (LCSW), social worker (LSW), behavior specialist(LBS), certified registered nurse practitioner, or a professional with a scopeof practice that includes overseeing the provision of ABA services. AND haveone of the following
  2. Certification as BCaBA or other undergraduatelevel certification in behavior analysis that is accredited by the National Commissionfor Certifying Agencies or the American National Standards Institute
  3. 1-year full time experience providing ABAservices and a minimum of 12 credits in ABA from a college or universityaccredited by an agency recognized by United States Department of Education orthe Council for Higher Education Accreditation or the equivalent from a foreigncollege or university.
  4. 1-year full time experience providing ABAservices under the supervision of a professional with a certification as a BCBAor other graduate-level certification in behavior analysis and a minimum of 40hours of training related to ABA approved by the PA Department of HumanServices

OR

  1. Licensed in the state of Pennsylvania as apsychologist and have a minimum of 1 year of full-time experience providing ABAservices and a minimum of 40 hours of training related to ABA approved by PADepartment of Human Services
  2. TheBehavior Consultant-ABA will have an updated Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance, Act34 Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Background Check, and Act 31 CPSLMandated Reporter Training prior to working alone with a child.

Working Conditions

Worksettings can include, but are not limited to, school buildings, home,community, church, activity centers, or extended or kinship family home. Workingconditions during the summer program and recreational programs may involvephysical activities. Clientele may attimes be verbally or physically abusive.
