ForeFront Power is Hiring a Director, Accounting Near San Francisco, CA

JOB OVERVIEW

The Director is responsible for the oversight of all accounting and reporting activities. Leads all day-to-day operations and supervises a team that includes functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reporting. The Director ensures that ForeFront Power has the systems and procedures in place to support effective clean energy project development and conduct timely audits.

JOB LOCATION AND REPORTING TO

This position will be based in our San Francisco office, with a hybrid office and work-from-home arrangement. The Director reports to the CFO and works closely with the executive committee members, leadership team, department heads, and staff to provide education regarding accounting procedures and explores how the accounting function can support operations. The Director, Accounting directly manages the accounting team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting team
  • Oversee all accounting and financial reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate accounting standards and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure an accurate and timely month, and quarterly and year end close
  • Analyze financial data and presents financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicates monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitors progress and changes and keeps executives abreast of ForeFront Power’s financial status
  • Establish, document, and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and procedures
  • Develops accounting organizational strategies by contributing accounting and financial information, analysis, and recommendations for strategic thinking and direction, and establishing functional objectives in line with organizational objectives
  • Oversee audit activities of ForeFront Power and its affiliates
  • Provide education regarding accounting procedures to ForeFront Power employees and also insight to our parent company around accounting treatments
  • Advise the project finance team on accounting implications of potential transaction structures to optimize business outcomes 
  • Review and support items provided to our partners (such as tax equity partners, cash equity investors, banks, insurance companies) including financial statements, due diligence items, and contract review
  • Lead and manage the accounting staff, ensuring a high level of performance and productivity
  • Manage our accounting system (Sage Intacct) integrations and improvements 
  • Assist the FP&A team for P&L and cash forecasting and the tax team for income tax estimates (both federal and SALT)
  • Ensure compliance with all agreements with our partners, investors and lenders

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10 years of experience in accounting
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, Master's degree is a plus 
  • Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and accounting for fixed assets and investments
  • Thorough understanding of US GAAP (especially hypothetical liquidation at book value (HLBV) method under partnership structure) and IFRS (for both US GAAP and IFRS, revenue recognition, lease accounting, consolidation, derivative, business combination and others)
  • Demonstrated competence in financial reporting and internal controls, development of financial and budget planning models, and benchmarking tools
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex data for a variety of audiences
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and collaboration skills with a proven track record of building effective relationships across functional areas and with external partners
  • Extremely proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills
  • Proficient in ERP systems; Sage Intacct experience preferred
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentially
  • Renewable energy and/or infrastructure finance experience (especially transactions with tax equity investors)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position is primarily sedentary in nature and requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk in front of a computer.
