The Position

Forney is looking for a Staff Accountant with a can-do attitude. This position will be responsible for month-end entries, reporting, and analysis to help drive the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports. The Staff Accountant will collaborate with the Accounting team and other departments in the organization to deliver meaningful financial information. Moreover, the position requires best-in-class Excel skills for data mining, modeling, and forecasting. This person will report to the Assistant Controller.

Pay range: $55,000-$65,000

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support month-end close process.
  • Book necessary journal entries monthly.
  • Reconcile multiple bank accounts.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations. 
  • Manage large-volume credit card expenses, verifying receipts and coding.
  • Research and problem solve account discrepancies and coding corrections.
  • Review departmental reports and financial statements for missing expenses and prepare accrual entries as necessary.
  • Assist with multi-state sales tax and annual report filing.
  • Assist with audit fieldwork.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • 1-3 years’ work experience in the accounting field
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures and principles

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical information and journals, financial analysis and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management and public groups.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply such concepts as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. 

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Office required
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Take ownership and see work projects through to completion
  • Possess the intellectual curiosity necessary to problem solve independently
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

The work environment is a traditional office setting with occasional need to perform duties in a manufacturing, packaging and production environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Office dress is casual.
