CAREGIVER SUPPORT SIDEKICK

(Behavioral Case Aide)

OVERVIEW & PURPOSE 

The Caregiver Support Sidekick will provide in-person, trauma-informed support to caregivers of children and youth in foster care throughout Clark and Cowlitz Counties. This role focuses on augmenting the supervision and activities provided by caregivers to address the complex behavioral and developmental needs of foster children, which cannot be managed without additional support.

Key qualifications include experience in social work, child care or related fields, a strong understanding of trauma-informed care practices, and the ability to work effectively with children, youth, and families in the foster care system. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role.

Benefits

This is a .75FTE position with an hourly rate of $21.00/hour, located in Vancouver, WA. A benefits package, parking and phone stipend will be included.

  1. Phone stipend of $50, reimbursed monthly
  2. Health benefit reimbursement package of up to $375 per month
  3. PTO accrued at 7.5 hours per month
  4. Sick leave accrues in accordance with Washington State law- one hour per every 40 hours worked

Responsibilities 

In-Home Support: Provide direct, trauma-informed support to foster caregivers and children in care, focusing on levels 3-7 of foster care.

Positive Behavior Support and Crisis Intervention: Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children by offering Positive Behavior Support, which includes modeling prosocial behavior, responding to crises, and implementing strategies to address and prevent challenges.

Protective Supervision: Deliver protective supervision based on each child's assessed needs and supervision plan, maintaining a supportive and safe environment.

Skill Development: Assist children in developing essential life skills, including social, emotional, and practical skills.

Access to Healthcare: Facilitate timely access to medical, dental, and mental health services for children.

Transportation: Provide transportation for children to necessary appointments and activities, with accurate documentation and reporting of mileage.

Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of interactions, services provided, and progress notes in compliance with organizational standards. Fulfill mandatory reporting obligations as required by law and organizational policies.

Collaboration and Communication: Work with team members, social workers, and community partners to support foster families effectively.

Other Duties as Assigned: Participate in additional tasks, including assisting with organizational events and volunteer recruitment, as needed.

Qualifications 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be 21 years old
  • Must have previous experience working with children or other vulnerable populations
  • Possess the ability to adapt to various trauma responses, including occasional physical and verbal aggression from children
  • Must be comfortable working with children, ages 0-17
  • Access to reliable transportation clean driving record
  • Pass a criminal and child welfare background checks 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
