Joining FoundryWe are hiring our first in-house counsel with deep expertise in legal product and commercial strategy to design contracts that are not only legally sound but also commercially attractive. This role involves significant interaction with product development teams, commercial teams, and external legal stakeholders.
You will play a crucial role in developing the contractual backbone of our business model. This position requires a visionary legal expert who can navigate risk, understand product tradeoffs, and design efficient, and scalable interactions across a myriad of suppliers with different compliance standards, uptime guarantees, and machine types. You will operate with incredible autonomy.
Responsibilities
In consideration of market analysis and various pertinent factors, the remuneration bracket for this role is set between $170,000 and $280,000. Nevertheless, adjustments beyond this range could be warranted for candidates whose qualifications substantially deviate from those delineated in the job description.
In-Office requirementOffices remain pivotal for fostering collaboration and nurturing Foundry's cultural ethos. For roles like the one at our Palo Alto HQ, employees are required to work from the office three days a week (typically Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday), ensuring a blend of in-person and remote work conducive to our team dynamics and operational needs. Exceptions for full remote work must be formally approved.

Responsibilities
- Own our entire legal process from end-to-end, overseeing everything from commercial contracts, to board consents and employment. You'll be the primary point-of-contact for all things legal.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts that support Foundry's strategic objectives, ensuring flexibility and compliance in a fast-evolving industry.
- Continuously improve our contract architecture to ensure scalability and efficiency across diverse customer and supplier interactions.
- Work closely with the product and sales teams to understand market needs and customer expectations, translating these into contract terms that serve both business and legal objectives.
- Develop strategies to minimize legal risks associated with commercial transactions while promoting a proactive approach to market expansion and product development.
- Own relationships with our external law firms to ensure high-quality legal services are delivered cost-effectively.
- Lead the integration of legal considerations into product development, ensuring compliance and strategic legal positioning are maintained.
- Provide strategic advice to senior management on legal matters that affect the company, ensuring legal health and agility in operations.
- JD or LLM from a top ABA law school.
- Licensed to practice law in relevant jurisdictions with a solid track record of managing legal frameworks in technology-driven environments.
- At least 5 years relevant tech transaction or corporate legal experience, ideally both at a law firm and in-house, with a preference for backgrounds in AI, cloud computing, and/or marketplaces.
- Demonstrated ability to develop innovative product-embedded legal solutions that support business objectives
- Strategic thinker with a keen understanding of how legal strategies can create significant barriers to entry for competitors and solidify our market position.
- Excellent commercial negotiation and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to communicate complex legal concepts in a clear and persuasive manner.
- Passion for partnering with Sales and closing revenue deals
- An ability to translate between business and technical risk and communicate clearly to business and technical constituencies
- Roll-up your sleeves attitude to tackle projects large and small and a collaborative, low-ego approach to collaborating across the organization
- Deep interest in artificial intelligence, generative AI, and machine learning technology and applications
- Demonstrated deep understanding of the data center and cloud services technical and regulatory environment issues influencing datacenter operations and cloud services.
