Franklin Pierce University is Hiring a Student Success Librarian Near Rindge, NH

Position Summary:
Reporting to the University Librarian, the Student Success Librarian oversees and manages reference and instructional functions, liaises with the Student Success Center, FYI/GLE, and other student success initiatives on campus to provide appropriate library support. Supports the library needs of the university's graduate programs and all distance learners. Leads, and serves as coordinator for FPU's Open Education initiatives. Participates in university and professional activities, serves on university committees, stays abreast of national trends and issues related to reference, instruction, and student success, and makes professional contributions.
Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions of the Position:
  • Provides reference service.
  • Supports the library needs of the university's graduate programs.
  • Develops, performs, and coordinates multi-platform library instructional services.
  • Establishes workflows, policies and procedures for reference and instructional functions.
  • Provides leadership in all aspects of reference and instruction.
  • Engages actively with academic programs and the university community to enable student success
  • Liaises with the Student Success Center and FYI/GLE to provide appropriate library support.
  • Promotes and coordinates use of open educational resources (OER) on campus.
  • Recommends new titles and resources to support reference and instructional functions.
  • Assists, as needed, at the Service Desk.
  • Performs regular institutional service through faculty governance activities.
  • Confers regularly with the University Librarian, other library faculty, and the Access Services Manager to plan, coordinate, and evaluate service, projects, and systems, exchange information, and resolve problems.
  • Keeps abreast of current developments, trends, and resources in the field.
  • Provides back-up to other library staff and assists with library-wide projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the University Librarian.
Position Requirements/Skills/Abilities:
  • Earned Master's degree in Library Science from an American Library Associate (ALA)-accredited program required.
  • One to three years of experience in an academic setting (preferred).
  • One to three years of experience in reference and instruction (preferred).
  • Have a broad base of technical knowledge and skills related to academic library services.
  • Strong skills in the use of appropriate resources related to reference and instruction.
  • Some experience with OER preferred.
  • Ability to hold faculty rank at Franklin Pierce University.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Knowledge of copyright law and fair use guidelines.
  • Familiarity with Springshare software.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong service orientation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform regular institutional service through faculty governance activities.
  • Must successfully complete criminal background check.

  • Ability to handle highly confidential material. All information must be kept in strict confidence and should not be discussed anywhere other than in the appropriate professional setting.
  • Exemplary customer skills, including dealing effectively with the students, faculty, staff, and general public both in person and over the telephone. Maintain professionalism when dealing with all staff and other customers. Demonstrates understanding and sensitivity to the needs of all prospective as well as current students.
  • Excellent writing skills and the demonstrated ability to develop written reports and action plans. Ability to compile accurate statistics and report them promptly.
  • Excellent communication and oral skills.
  • Ability to work effectively, decisively and flexibly in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Ability to identify problems and to propose feasible solutions. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office (specifically, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook) and have the self-motivation and the ability to stay current with emerging office technologies.
  • Knowledge of academic community teaching/learning goals.
  • Ability to keep up-to-date on curricular and program changes in order to select appropriate materials for the documents collection.
  • Ability to promote teamwork among staff.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in enforcing library policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work well with library patrons including faculty, staff, students, and general public.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with library and campus faculty/staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Carry out all responsibilities and objectives in a professional manner.
  • Maintain professionalism when dealing with all staff and other customers.
  • Accept and render constructive criticism in a professional manner.
