The Fred Smith Company is currently seeking applicants for the position of Structures Foreman. A qualified applicant will have 5 years prior experience in bridge construction.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with superintendent and manager to develop project construction plan
- Assist superintendent and/or manager in developing site safety plan
- Complete a three week look ahead schedule on a weekly basis
- Use look ahead schedule to assist superintendent and manager in developing long range schedule
- Communicate with owner's representative, inspectors and any other project personnel
- Manage and provide direction to a crew of 6-12 carpenters, operators and laborers including:
- Daily safety discussions
- Specific task instruction
- Manage equipment necessary to complete the project (cranes, excavators, bulldozers, etc.):
- Communicate equipment needs
- Coordinate maintenance if required
- Maintain required equipment inspection paperwork
- Schedule, direct and manage subcontractors and the work they perform
- Schedule material delivery, communicate material needs to superintendent or manager
- Responsible for maintenance and security of all tools
Basic computer skills:
- Ability to report crew's time via computer
- Ability to open and send emails
- Ability to report daily production quantities
Basic arithmetic skill
- Ability to calculate concrete/stone/asphalt needs
Miscellaneous duties:
- Daily JSA (Job Safety Analysis) forms
- Accident/incident reporting
- Familiar with calling in utility locates
- Enforcing all company policies as described in the employee handbook
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees.
- Minimum of 5 years prior experience working in bridge construction.
Work Environment
Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.
Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete.
