Frederick County Government is Hiring a Part-time Inventory Specialist Near Frederick, MD

Fleet Services is committed to providing safe, reliable, and cost-efficient vehicles and equipment to County departments. We prioritize our customers' needs, ensuring they have the necessary resources to provide critical services that ensure the safety of the community and maintain County assets. Our operations include a Light Truck and Car Shop, Heavy Equipment and Truck Shop, Fire Apparatus Shop, Law Enforcement Light Vehicle Shop, and Transit Bus Maintenance Facility.
POSITION DETAILS:
Non-exempt; part-time; 20 hours per work; Monday-Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; no benefits

This part-time administrative and inventory position assists with receiving, processing and distributing incoming parts within the Frederick County Government’s repair facilities. This position will help to organize the stockroom and monitor fuel deliveries and disbursements. Direction may be received from Service Managers. Supervision is received from the Assistant Department Head, Fleet Services.

  • Assist Inventory Specialists with parts room tasks which include inventorying products, organizing, and stocking parts 
  • Order, receive, and issue supplies/parts for work orders
  • Assist with parts inventory by organizing, labeling, and maintaining stock levels
  • Monitor fuel deliveries in compliance with Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) guidelines and track fuel inventory
  • Clean and maintain parts shop 
  • Assist Service Managers and other Fleet service staff with clerical support duties 
  • Assist Fleet service staff with repairs to vehicles, as needed
  • Utilize small hand tools for basic automotive repairs, as needed
  • As needed, test-drive, move, and transport fleet vehicles with the proper driver’s license or commercial driver's license**
  • As needed, drive fork lift to store and move parts 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • High school graduation or the equivalency
  • Minimum 1 year clerical or inventory work experience 
  • Beginner skills in the use of MS Office Suite
  • Possession of a valid automobile operator's license
  • Current possession of C UST Operator training certificate issued by the Maryland Department of Environmental Management’s UST Program, or the ability to become so certified within 60 days of hire
  • Current possession of A/B UST Operator training certificate issued by the Maryland Department of Environmental Management’s UST Program, or the ability to become so certified within 1 year of hire
  • Ability obtain Forklift Operator certification within 90 days of hire to operate a forklift
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
  • Ability to maintain County Authorized Driver privileges 
  • Knowledge of potential safety hazards associated with basic automotive service, and ability to employ appropriate safety precautions
  • Basic automotive knowledge 
  • Basic knowledge of automotive parts and their functions 
  • Ability and willingness to learn to operate all fleet vehicles, small hand tools, and equipment as needed
  • Ability to navigate Faster Asset Management system
  • Effective spoken and written (English) communication skills, including the ability to accurately complete forms and reports, etc.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public
  • Strong clerical and record-keeping skills, including the ability to accurately perform basic math
  • Ability to work autonomously and efficiently, both individually and as part of a team
PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR:
  • Auto parts room work experience
  • Automotive work experience
  • Possession of a Maryland Class B Commercial Driver's License** with airbrake endorsement (or an equivalent license)
  • Experience using Faster Asset Management system
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • While working in this position, the employee is required to frequently sit, walk, climb, stoop, lift up to 20 pounds, push and pull up to and over 40 pounds, reach and perform repetitive motions; and occasionally lift up to and over 50 pounds, push and pull up to and over 40 pounds, and drive
  • While working in this position, the employee is required to constantly work indoors; frequently walk on uneven ground, work in hot and cold temperatures, in dirty, dusty, noisy and confirmed spaces and occasionally work outdoors
  • Availability to varied evening and weekend hours to accommodate meetings special events, as required.
