Frederick Health is Hiring an Infusion Center RN Full Time Near Frederick, MD

Job Summary:

Uses the nursing process to determine care needs, plan to address those needs, and determine desired outcomes. Assesses the patient for learning needs and provides education and support as indicated. Makes referrals to the Care Manager for patients requiring social, support, and financial assistance during treatment. Supports and participates in performance and quality improvement activities within the IVOP department.

Essential Functions:

  1. • Treats all patients with courtesy, dignity, and respect.
  2. • Implements service recovery as needed to promote patient satisfaction.
  3. • Keeps patient informed of treatment or physician delays. Adjusts schedule as needed.
  4. • Assists in the development of action plans to address patient concerns identified in the Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey.
  5. • Takes responsibility for his/her work. Functions as a team member. 
  6. • Conducts self in a professional and courteous manner. 
  7. • Uses critical thinking and makes responsible decisions regarding patient care.
  8. • Assists in the orientation of new staff to the IVOP.
  9. • Orients and mentors nursing students rotating through the IVOP Department.
  10. • Demonstrates flexibility in giving and receiving patient assignments.
  11. • Maintains patient confidentiality. 
  12. • Completes all paperwork with accuracy and completeness.
  13. • Possesses the necessary computer skills to effectively document patient care. 
  14. • Knows and demonstrates proper safety practices related to Intravenous Therapy and Oncology Nursing practice. 
  15. • Follows universal precautions and aseptic technique in provision of patient care.
  16. • Uses proper lifting techniques.
  17. • Knows location of emergency equipment.
  18. • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of the workspace. 
  19. • Assumes responsibility for promoting a team spirit within the department. Functions as a resource to other Frederick Health departments regarding care requirements for IVOP patients.
  20. • Models positive interpersonal skills for co-workers with one another and patients. 
  21. • Actively participates in project teams, task forces, and committee assignments as needed.
  22. • Assesses the biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, symptom management, nutrition, and pain level of all patients using the Nursing Process to determine care needed and to evaluate outcomes.
  23. • Efficiently organizes and prioritizes patient care. 
  24. • Uses knowledge, experience, and critical thinking skills to identify and meet patient care needs.
  25. • Makes appropriate referrals to the Care Manager, dietician, and Pain CNS as indicated.
  26. • Continually assesses these vital areas of concern for the IVOP patient throughout the course of treatment. 
  27. • Documents changes and informs physician. 
  28. • Administers medications and treatments as ordered. 
  29. • Keeps physician informed of patient changes & concerns.
  30. • Serves as a resource person and patient advocate.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. • Able to assess and care for patients with special needs with respect to cultural, ethical, and religious differences and physical abilities.
  2. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  3. • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  4. • Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality related to employee and patient information.
  5. • Knowledgeable regarding the effective use of body mechanics when handling patients, supplies and equipment.

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required:

  1. • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland.
  2. • Must have 3 years of experience practicing as a registered nurse in a hospital, infusion clinic, or home health setting. 
  3. • Certification from the Infusion Nurses Society and/or the Oncology Nursing Society preferred.
  4. • Current CPR certification.

Patient Contact:

If applicable, must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in the following age groups:

  • __X_Adolescent (13 years thru 17 years)
  • __X_Adult (18 years thru 65 years)
  • __X_Geriatric (66 years)

Possess the ability to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit’s/department’s policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements:

Medium-Heavy Work – Lifting up to 75 pounds on an infrequent basis (less than one lift every three minutes) and/or carrying up to 35 pounds while walking. Pushing or pulling up to 115 pounds infrequently or greater than 115 pounds occasionally (no more than once per hour).

Ergonomic Risk Factors:

Repetition: Repeating the same motion over and over again places stress on the muscles and tendons. The severity of risk depends on how often the action is repeated, the speed of the movement, the required force and muscles involved.

Forceful Exertion: The amount of physical effort required to perform a task (such as moving patients) or to maintain control of equipment or tools. The amount of force depends on the type of grip, the weight of an object or person, body posture, the type of activity and the duration of the task.

Awkward Posture: Posture is the position your body is in and its effect on the muscle groups that are involved in the physical activity. Awkward postures include repeated or prolonged reaching, twisting, bending, kneeling, squatting, working overhead with your hands or arms, or holding fixed positions.

Contact Stress: Pressing the body hard on sharp edges can result in placing too much pressure on nerves, tendons, and blood vessels. For example, using the palm of your hand to hit or stick objects can increase risk of musculoskeletal disorders.

Working Conditions:

Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Risk: Category A – WILL have exposure to blood or body fluids.

Reporting Relationship:

Reports to Clinical Manager and receives direction from the service line Director and Physicians.
