Job SummaryResponsible for the overall operations and functioning of the Safety and Security Department in providing service, support, protection and assistance with the standard of care to the hospital community by safeguarding and securing the hospital; its facilities and property. As assigned, supervises security personnel; develops work assignments; oversees shift operations; provides feedback and monitors/directs security, parking, communications center, and guest shuttle activities. Interprets and enforces department policies and procedure and serves as liaison for police and fire authorities.
Essential Functions
  • Assists a Supervisor/Manager with responsibility for the day-to-day operations; absent a Supervisor will lead shift, responsible for the shift personnel and operations. As needed, incumbent may also be placed in this role by the Department Director to assist with supervision of the shift staff and shift operations.
  • Assists in the assignment of personnel to their daily scheduled duties; reviews all pass-downs, logs, journals, forms and reports since last tour of duty to ensure continuity of services and provide appropriate follow up; monitors line staff performance ensuring adherence to Department/Hospital policies and procedures; ensures Department philosophy and expectations for customer service are met; ensures adequate coverage for the next shift and special details.
  • Notifies Department/Hospital Supervisor, Manager, Director of any special occurrences (i.e. any failure of persons, equipment, policy, procedure disruptive to normal business or having potential for negative consequence or publicity).
  • Actively participates in Department committees, projects and initiatives.
  • If assigned, serves as a Field Training Officer (FTO), orienting and training new department staff.
  • If assigned, conducts initial and/or in-service training of personnel and promotes their growth and development. Documents personnel training records and tracks completion, certification, re-certification and general compliance standards are updated as needed.
Minimum Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Valid Driver's License with familiarity of operation of 4 wheel drive vehicles and ability to drive in all weather conditions. MVA Driving Record required.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and techniques and the ability to take initiated and give direction as situations dictate.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills to assist with control desk operation.
  • Possess ability to provide direction and management of security officer performance, routine operations and functions of the Security Department.
  • Ability to take control of volatile situations and issue commands as situations dictate
Physical Demands: Medium- Heavy Work- Lifting up to 75 pounds on an infrequent basis, (less than one lift every three minutes) or carrying 35 pounds while walking. Pushing or pulling up to 115 pounds infrequently or greater than 115 pounds occasionally.

Awkward Posture: Posture is the position of your body is in and its effect on the muscle groups that are involved in the physical activity. Awkward postures include repeated or prolonged reaching, twisting, bending, kneeling, squatting, working overhead with your hands or arms, or holding fixed positions.
