Job Summary : Provides direct and indirect patient care in the medical-surgical setting. Communications with physicians/Nurse Manager/co-workers, as appropriate about changes in patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:

Administer medications, including IV infusions and injections, following strict protocols to ensure patient safety and therapeutic effectiveness.

Perform wound care and dressing changes, utilizing aseptic techniques to prevent infection and promote healing in complex wounds.

Monitor patient vital signs, such as blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation, to detect any signs of deterioration or improvement in their condition.

Facilitate the use of ventilators and other respiratory support equipment for patients with severe respiratory issues, ensuring settings are adjusted according to the patient’s needs.

Provide nutritional support, including the management of feeding tubes for patients unable to consume food orally, ensuring their nutritional needs are met.

Implement and manage patient-specific care plans, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to address the comprehensive needs of long-term acute care patients.

Educate patients and their families on disease processes, management strategies, and discharge planning to ensure a smooth transition from hospital to home or another care facility.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including the collection and analysis of care data to identify trends and opportunities for enhancing patient care and outcomes in the LTAC setting.

Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services to level licensure.

Communicates appropriately and clearly to Nurse Manager, co-workers and physicians.

Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.

Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including: geriatric and general population.

Demonstrate an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.

Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organize and function under stressful situations.

Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.

Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.

Documentation meets current standards and policies.

Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family; communicates with social service/ discharge planner regarding both in hospital and post discharge needs.

Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.

Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Professional Requirements:

Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.

Completes annual education requirements.

Maintains regulatory requirements.

Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

Report to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.

Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.

Completes inservices and returns in a timely fashion.

Attends annual review and department inservices, as scheduled.

Attends at least 6 staff meetings annually, reads and returns all monthly staff meeting minutes.

Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.

Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.

Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.

Any other duties designated by the Director of Nursing.

Regulatory Requirements:

  • Current Mississippi Registered Nurse Licensure.
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS certification

Language Skills:

  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Additional language preferred.
