Programs Summary

The FLY Middle School Program is up to a year-long program for 7th and 8th graders who are at risk of being pushed out of school. The program focuses on intervening early in the school-to-prison pipeline, which disproportionately impacts youth who experience various forms of exclusion and marginalization, such as poverty and racism. FLY staff works to engage youth’s schools, their families, and juvenile justice agencies in the youth’s success.

The Law Program teaches young people about their rights and responsibilities under the law, while building community with FLY staff and volunteers. Classes are held in locked facilities, schools, and the community. Facilitators provide three months of group mentoring, a field trip to a local university, a mock court trial, and a program recognition ceremony.

Programs Facilitator - Position Summary

The Programs Facilitator works to educate middle school and high school students in Alameda County schools on law related topics. This includes co-facilitating weekly classes on the juvenile justice system, knowing your rights, self-advocacy, etc. The facilitator will attend FLY law facilitation training as well as ongoing youth development trainings. This position will work mostly in person due to the nature of the work, although appropriate administrative tasks may be performed remotely. 

Position Responsibilities

Facilitate Law and Middle School Programs Law Related Education (LRE) classes

• Co-facilitate multiple weekly classes - including delivering the FLY curriculum, leading activities and assisting in classroom management

• Participate in weekly team meetings to reflect on previous facilitation and prepare for upcoming classes

• Build strong rapport with youth through meaningful one-on-one and group engagement

Assist with Middle School Program Assessments and Resources for Youth

• Administer program-specific evaluations and surveys at the beginning and end of LRE cycles 

• Provide feedback on how to strengthen and build upon the current curriculum 

• Provide resources to youth who participate in the LRE sessions, but may not be eligible for FLY case management services

Support Middle School Program Law Sites coordination and administrative tasks

• Maintain positive stakeholder relationships on school sites 

• Ensure all program documents and confidential information are current and appropriately filed

• Ensure attendance and demographic information is entered into FLY’s database 

• Attend initial facilitation training as well as any necessary ongoing trainings 

Other duties as needed and assigned.

Compensation & Benefits

This position is a part time role at a rate of $23.04/hour with differential pay options based on an advanced degree, when applicable to the role, speaking another language. Our Total Rewards Package also includes the following:
