Program Summary

The Law Program is a 12-week legal education course serving over 225 youth annually with experiential components that inspires high school-aged youth to change their behavior, build social emotional learning (SEL) skills, and become change agents in their communities. The curriculum covers relevant topics such as police encounters, accomplice liability, three strikes, theft, vandalism, drugs, gangs, and police arrests. Classes are held in locked facilities, schools and the community.

Position Responsibilities

Build and Maintain Positive Stakeholder Relationships

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with stakeholders through email, phone, and in person

  • Generate and maintain positive and strategic relationships with probation officers and outside stakeholders

  • Aid in the efforts of increasing volume of youth referrals from probation and other sources

  • Generate attendance reports and youth history at FLY for probation officers and other stakeholders 

  • Help schedule and attend youth recruitment pitches.

  • As needed to attend external meetings.

Coordinate the Preparation of Supplies for all Law Sites, Training Events, Field Trips, and Law Graduation

  • Coordinate pick-ups and weekly snacks and supplies for all law program sites

  • Prepare and transport all supplies needed for facilitator training events, law program field trips, and graduation.

  • Order meals and prepare snacks for all training events, law program field trips and graduations.

  • Some evening and weekend work is required for program events with prior notice 

Coordinate Volunteer Recruitment in conjunction with the Law Program Site Manager

  • Provide assistance to the Law Program Site Manager for the preparation of all presentations and general volunteer recruitment, including attending presentations, providing general information to potential volunteers regarding the Law Program, and networking to increase volunteer recruitment as needed for additional sites

  • Organize volunteer facilitator interviews including providing packets/paperwork to Law Program Site Manager and Law Program Manager prior to interview

  • Process all volunteer clearances within 48 hours of volunteer interviews, which include updating Site Manager and Program Manager on clearances statuses.

  • Plan, organize and coordinate logistics for volunteer training including: buying supplies, booking rooms, ordering food, etc.

  • Attend and provide logistical support for all meetings and trainings that pertain to the Law Program including volunteer training, field trips and recognition ceremony 

Provide General Programmatic and Administrative Support

  • Enter all Law Program team reimbursements into the budget tracking system and submit to accounting

  • Provide rides to youth for field trips, activities, and events as needed

  • Participate in involvement of Leadership Recruitment

  • Attend a monthly county-wide meeting in the San Mateo County Office (transportation support can help be arranged if necessary) 

ETO Database

  • Generate attendance reports for Law Program Site Manager and Manager on a monthly basis.

  • Process new youth referrals into the database within 72 hours of receiving the referral.

  • Process LRE volunteers paperwork, documents, and monthly volunteer efforts into database

  • Process youth attendance, demographics, and assessments into the database for the law program and juvenile hall.

Facilitate LRE Curriculum

  • 9Lead facilitate at a minimum of two law sites per semester

  • Facilitate at Juvenile Hall as needed

  • Provide support at various sites with facilitation as needed

Compensation & Benefits

This position is a full-time non-exempt role at a rate of $23.04/hour with differential pay options based on an advanced degree and, when applicable to the role, speaking another language. Our Total Rewards Package also includes the following:
