Position Summary
Anticipated Hiring Hourly Range: $17.00 - $20.50
Under the direction of the Building Maintenance Supervisor, the Building Maintenance Technician performs a variety of semi-skilled to skilled work on the buildings. This position will process daily work orders and will need critical thinking and problem-solving skills when fixing maintenance issues.

Duties:
  • Complete tasks efficiently with work that is comprehensive, complete, and accurate
  • Communicates effectively, listens attentively, and seeks to understand others
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Collaborates productively with colleagues of varying skillsets
  • Safely operates a variety of hand and power tools, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Move equipment, materials, and furniture as needed.
  • Is responsible to report maintenance needs, such as fire, safety, and security hazards, immediately.
  • Working closely with building occupants to minimize inconvenience.
  • Ability to work from a computer-based work order system with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to ordering supplies, handling records and scheduling maintenance if needed.
  • Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service.
  • Can act as a lead technician and delegate daily task as needed to other technicians when the Building Maintenance Supervisor gives direction.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work on roofs of multi-story buildings.
  • Keep and maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Performs a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled prepping and painting work orders including pressure washing, sanding, scraping, masking, caulking, taping, mudding, texturing, putty, plaster, lacquer, paint, using brushes, spray gun, or paint rollers, and apply paint to interior and exterior on old and new construction.
  • Service, maintain and install roofing for a variety of roofing systems. (Both residential and commercial)
  • Repair walls, floors, windows, screens, and any other building components. Including drywall, stucco, and siding repair.
  • Installs, maintains, repairs, and adjusts all types of locks and their components for campus buildings, rooms, furniture, and vehicles.
  • Maintains and repairs automatic door openers, door closing units and access control gates.
  • Cut and Issues keys with receipt of proper forms, and designs and maintain master key control systems.
  • Ability to weld and fabricate steel projects.
  • Ability to design, fabricate and repair furniture, including assembly of prefab furniture.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Two years of construction skills such as carpentry, painting, masonry, plumbing, roofing, and welding.
  • Valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

Physical Demands:
  • Candidates must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential duties of the position without hazard to themselves or others.
  • Moderate-to-heavy lifting (up to 75 pounds), sitting, standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, reaching and working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools and equipment including forklifts and man lifts.
  • Must possess dexterity of hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment, near and far visual acuity and depth perception.
  • Ability to hear and speak at normal levels to communicate with others.
