Position Summary
Anticipated Hiring Hourly Range: $17.00 - $20.50 per hour
The Event Services Technician prepares facilities for meetings, conferences, seminars, stage and musical productions, in addition to various other special events. This position will produce complete work performed in a manner consistent with the university's mission. The Event Services Technician will report directly to the Event Services Supervisor and will collaborate closely with all members of the Facilities team.

Duties:

  • Represent the university in a professional manner and manage the Event Services department.
  • Maintain a professional working relationship with faculty, staff, students, the public and guests of the university.
  • Maintain clear communication with event organizers and ensure all technical or other event related needs are fully met.
  • Coordinate various aspects of events, including but not limited to, the procurement of equipment, outside services and support staffing, event set-up, operation and take-down.
  • Assist in the set-up, take-down, operation, maintenance, storage and inventory control of lighting, sound and special effects equipment, staging, scenery, props, furnishings, tents, tables and chairs and other equipment.
  • Help supervise workers including student and volunteer staff, and perform on-site work in support of events, including after-hours.
  • Ability to work unsupervised using shop tools, and event equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to, facilities maintenance and repair, related work, and on/ off-campus moves.
  • Complete tasks timely with work that is comprehensive, complete, and accurate.
  • Communicates clearly, listens attentively, and seeks to understand others.
  • Collaborates productively with colleagues of varying skillset.
Qualifications

Required
  • Demonstrated personal Christian faith and commitment to the Christian mission of the University.
  • Knowledge of setup and operation of digital audio, video and lighting systems for live performances.
  • Preferred experience in stage theater production or special event set-up.
  • Demonstrated organizational capabilities, detail orientation and the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise good judgment in decisions.
  • Manage large scale events and multiple priorities as well as follow directions and procedures.
  • Customer service orientation and the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Must include Word and Excel.
  • Perform and supervise specialized training of staff, contractors and volunteers.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact with faculty, staff, students and the public in a professional manner.
  • Must be able to manage and work with interruptions during normal office hours.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License, excellent driving record and personal history.
  • Ability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Demonstrate analytical and cognitive thinking and decision making.
  • Possess the ability to perform the following with or without reasonable accommodation: sit, stand, climb and walk for extended periods of time, drive a vehicle and other motorized equipment, bend, kneel, reach, work at heights in excess of 30 feet, hear and speak at normal levels to communicate effectively with others and determine proper sound levels and equipment settings during events, near and far visual acuity and depth perception, and dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment.
Preferred:
  • Demonstrated experience in a school, college or university setting.

Environmental Conditions:
  • Exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes including hot, cold, and wet conditions at least fifty percent (50%) of the time.
  • Frequent computer use at a workstation.
  • Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
  • Drive personal or University vehicles to appointments.
  • Public contact position requiring professional apparel, personal hygiene, and grooming.
Physical Demands:
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Employee must be able to communicate with others to exchange information including both over the telephone and in-person communication with callers and community members and be able to read a computer screen and paper documents.
