The Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) Sign Language Interpreter (Certified): Itinerant under general supervision of the Special Education Department, the interpreter is to provide high quality Sign Language and spoken English interpreting services in order to facilitate communication among students and adults who are deaf or hard of hearing and their hearing peers, the classroom teacher, and other personnel within the school system who are participating in sanctioned District activities.

License/Credential or Skills
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school; Three years of experience interpreting in an educational setting desired.

Must complete 48 college units or successfully pass the NCLB (No Child Left Behind) paraprofessional exam.

Prefer graduate of interpreter training program or equivalent experience.

Shall be certified by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), or have achieved a minimum score of 4.0 or above on the Educational Sign Skills Evaluation-Interpreter (ESSE-I), the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA), the American Consortium of Certified Interpreters (ACCI), or the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) assessment.

Valid California Driver's License.
