Parent Education and Prevention Specialist

Friendly House, Inc., is a 501(c) 3 non-profit agency located in Phoenix, Arizona whose primary function is to provide a variety of educational and social service programming aimed at addressing the needs of low-income individuals and families, vulnerable populations and diverse communities. Additionally, Friendly House operates a charter school, Academia del Pueblo, with the mission to provide an academic environment which promotes a culture of high expectations to students from diverse cultures. Friendly House was organized in 1920 as the Phoenix Americanization Committee by a group of Phoenix citizens with the assistance of the United States Department of Education. In our 100-year history, the work of Friendly House has resulted in building resilient communities that are helping to spur economic development, stabilize neighborhoods and revitalize our city.

Position Summary

The Parent Education and Prevention Specialist at Friendly House serves as a key facilitator in expanding the availability of evidence-based curricula and workshops tailored for youth, parents, and caregivers, especially in underserved communities. With a primary focus on parent education and drug prevention, this role is dedicated to disseminating crucial information within school and community settings. Alongside delivering workshops, organizing quarterly community resource fairs, and actively engaging in outreach events are integral responsibilities, ensuring comprehensive support and awareness within the community.

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of social services case management and facilitation. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Possessing a valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to obtain an (IVP) “Identity Verified Print” Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by program needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, or related field.
  • Certifications in curricula such as Active Parenting, Active Parenting of Teens, Families in Action, Catch My Breath, Youth 360rx, and Adults 360rx.
  • Experience in facilitating both youth and adult prevention programs.
  • Proficiency in event planning.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organization skills.
  • Strong public speaking skills, with a talent for engaging with diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint.

Responsibilities:

  • Fulfill mandatory curricula training requirements and engage in additional professional development opportunities, subject to supervisor approval.
  • Perform various tasks including answering phones, filing enrollment forms and surveys, and managing office and program supplies.
  • Deliver classes and workshops at school and community-based settings.
  • Organize three community resource fairs, including planning, logistics, vendor coordination, promotion, and on-site management, to ensure successful and impactful events.
  • Collaborate closely with the program evaluator (Wellington), ensuring timely submission of surveys and reviewing monthly survey logs for accuracy.
  • Enter data into Friendly House's internal database and the funder's database in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy and completeness of information.
  • Safeguard confidential documents by securely storing them in a locked cabinet.
  • Establish new partnerships and nurture existing relationships with community partners, coordinating with them to optimize program delivery timelines.
  • Attend community stakeholder meetings, events, and workshops to expand program outreach and network.
  • Monitor participant numbers to meet the program goals outlined in the grant.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Prevention Services Supervisor
