Job Title: Caregiver/Child Care Teacher
Reports to: Child Care Director
Dept/School: Laura Ellison Child Development Center (CDC)
Work Year: 187 days
Base Salary: $23,000 Actual salary based on experiencePrimary PurposeSupervise, nurture, and provide all care necessary to children between the ages of 0 to 5 years old in a childcare setting. Plan and implement a structured learning program for children.
Education/CertificationQUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED required
Must meet the minimum qualifications set by the Health and Human Services Department to work in a childcare facility
CPR and First Aid certificates preferred
Special Knowledge/SkillsUnderstanding of developmentally appropriate practices for children
Demonstrated sound judgment when caring for children’s safety and health
Strong communication skills with both children and adults
Ability to use software and Google Workspace for basic office and classroom applications
Proficiency in web-based applications and ability to navigate and learn new online applications
Detail-oriented organizational skills in a multi-task environment, working with frequent interruptions
ExperienceExperience providing care in a licensed childcare center preferred
Classroom InstructionMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Develop and implement daily lesson plans and activities based on assessment of each child’s development and the goals of the center.
Collaborate with the center team and director to ensure continuity of curriculum and high standards of quality in all classrooms in the center.
Gather and organize developmental data on child’s growth through a portfolio system.
Conduct biannual parent conferences and maintain appropriate notes in each child’s file.
Assess development of children on an ongoing basis.
Engage all assigned children in learning activities.
Evaluate children’s interactions with one another through the day to ensure social/emotional development, ensure positive relationships, and teach conflict resolution.
Encourage children, model positive behavior, and promote compassion.
Read to children daily.
Engage children in fun activities, creative outlets, and free play daily.
Classroom EnvironmentMaintain a clean, safe, and developmentally appropriate environment.
Observe for and correct/report any hazardous conditions of the building, grounds, or equipment.
Conduct general housekeeping tasks, such as changing crib bedding, picking up toys, sweeping after meals, and restocking supplies.
Develop and maintain a daily schedule for children.
CommunicationDevelop a friendly relationship and open communication with each child and his/her parents.
Maintain cooperative and productive relationships with parents and colleagues.
Provide supervision, encouragement, and guidance for student workers, substitute teachers, volunteers and others in the program.
Communicate regularly with parents including daily charts, frequent updates, provision of lesson plans, and informal two-way communication.
Record incidents involving children and ensure incidents are reported to parents.
Maintain confidentiality.
Ensure regular communication of children’s progress and classroom activities.

Working ConditionsMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Must be able to: stoop, bend, and walk while carrying an infant up to 40lbs; move from standing to sitting on the floor without difficulty frequently throughout the day; safely lift and carry infants to/from changing table; change an infant’s diaper; handle multiple tasks and individual needs of children at once; perform emergency evacuation procedures with ease, including lifting/loading 3-4 infants into a crib with wheels and rolling the crib outdoors to safety area.
