Who we are looking for:

The Safety Director will be responsible for development and implementation of safety and security programs and processes to protect the safety of employees and ensure the security of the facilities, striving to maintain an accident-free work environment.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures including training employees, appraising performance, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
  • Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations.
  • Reviews Employee Incident Reports and makes recommendations for corrective actions to mitigate future incidents.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with Director of HR.
  • Identifies trends in safety incidents and develops corrective actions and communication plans company-wide.
  • Foster facility awareness, involvement, and accountability of health and safety issues to ensure full integration of company initiatives within all stages of the business.
  • Plans, implements, and reviews safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees of work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.
  • Oversees the management of DOT driving records and overall safe driving program within company.
  • Prepares studies and analyses of accident cause and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.
  • Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures, and ensures implementation by continuous follow up.
  • Stops operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment.
  • Provides information and instructions for the posting of signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
  • Completes investigation of accidents and injuries. Prepares material and evidence for organization’s use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations. Responsible for the compilation and submission of accident reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Oversees the administration of workers’ compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time. Provides oversight for safety exhibits and materials for display, promotional work, and industry conferences.
  • Represents the organization in the community or industry safety groups and programs.
  • Directs activities for the maintenance of safety, training and worker’s compensation files and records.
  • Responsible for the supervision, planning, and budgeting of department.
  • Establish and communicate emergency plans for each location.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and proven industry experience in Construction Safety, Insurance Risk Management, or Transportation and Infrastructure Safety.
  • CSP required
  • CPR Certified
  • 10 years of relevant experience
  • Must be able to travel 50% of the time.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Extensive knowledge of safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards.
  • Ability to speak well and present information to managers, clients and employees.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must be familiar with complex laws and regulations, and be able to process complex information to direct actions during emergency situations.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively in close proximity with co-workers to inform them of work-related problems, regulatory and compliance updates.
  • Regular and consistent attendance.
  • Agility in multitasking in a fast paced construction environment.
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills.
  • Self-starter and problem solver.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be willing to participate in and pass F&R’s pre-employment screening including a background investigation, drug screening and driving record.
