GENERAL SUMMARY: 

The Supervisor of Athletic Training has responsibility for and oversight of athletic training staff within his/her assigned services, site, or region in order to improve appropriate delivery of athletic training services. Oversees a team of Athletic Trainers (ATs) who are placed in various sites for provision of services including, but not limited to, high school/college/university, outreach programming, community events and engagements, and HFHS sites. Helps facilitate and coordinate clinical services through Henry Ford Medical Group and effectively communicates with the health care team.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Administers Athletic Training activities within the Orthopedics Service Line and Sports Medicine.
  2. Directs, guides, and supports athletic trainers in the performance of their duties and assists management in the provision of services, including quality assessment monitors, program policies and procedures, and service line protocols.
  3. Communicates with physicians, Division leadership and other professionals in order to ensure optimal patient care, athlete triage, and AT staff development.
  4. Works with the Director and/or Manager in the development of business growth plans and to promote patient care and program development.
  5. Develops and maintains lines of communication and relationships with athletic trainers, physician, and/or other personnel of designated teams/schools serviced by HFMG and independent organizations, including, but not limited to professional, 
    collegiate, and high school athletes.
  6. Assists in the development of policies and procedures as necessary regarding the functions of the Orthopedics Service Line and Athletic Training.
  7. Assists and participates in student clinical education program by assisting students and interns. May participate as a Clinical Instructor (CI) and assist Athletic Training Program Directors at participating universities with staff instruction and compliance.
  8. Maintains clinical expertise through professional associations, educational activities, and continuous fieldwork. Adheres to athletic training standards and scope of practice, when needed, by covering events and gaps in schedules, in addition to daily assignment/oversight.
  9. Participates in in-services, meetings, and committees as assigned.
  10. Performs all other related duties as directed or assigned. 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Completion of a CAATE approved athletic training education program or educational equivalent required.
  • Three to five years (3-5) of related and expansive work experience in all aspects of athletic training required.
  • Post-certification master's degree in athletic training or related field preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • Licensed as an Athletic Trainer (AT) through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs required.
  • Board of Certification, Inc. certified as an Athletic Trainer (ATC) required.
  • Additional certifications and credentials obtained in health care (i.e. CSCS, PES, FMS, CKTP, EMT) preferred.
