The Patient Access Clerk performs a variety of office functions including, check in, check out, registration, referrals, medical records, and scheduling. The Patient Access Clerk will have one of these functions as their primary responsibility and will be expected to cover in any of the other functions as needed. This position requires a highly organized individual who can effectively manage more than one task at a time and move swiftly throughout the varied responsibilities. The Patient Access Clerk must be able to work and interact as part of a team and utilize skills in both the Physician Practices and Hospital Registration. The Patient Access Clerk uses multiple EMR systems and office software to record patient information, to register patients, and to share and receive information. Performs other related duties as assigned.
High school diploma and/or GED required. Work experience in healthcare or related industry preferred, or equivalent educational training. Ability to follow procedures. Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and written. Possesses clerical and basic mathematical skills. Able to multitask and complete tasks with minimal supervision. Computer experience is required. Must learn and maintain competency in multiple computer software systems used to register patients for services at FCMC.
