Fund for Public Health in NYC is Hiring a Director of Finance Near New York, NY

The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. To this end, in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives implemented by DOHMH to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. These collaborations speed the execution of demonstration projects, effect expansion of successful pilot programs, and support rapid implementation to meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City.
Position OverviewThe Director of Finance will report to and work closely with the Chief Financial Officer. S/he will direct and manage the budget, financial reporting, forecasting and accounting for FPHNY. S/he will also oversee all financial work related to grants, accounts receivable as well as the allocation of funding for FPHNY. This individual will also manage and hire financial staff for his/her team
Responsibilities
  • Preparing financial reporting & analysis for FPHNY and oversee the work for each grant. Assure that all reports are accurate, comprehensive, and meet stated deadlines. Including, but not limited to Federal, State, City and private donor requirements
  • Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures, including, but not limited to compliance with applicable government regulations and required reporting. Asist the Chief Financial Officer in updating financial policies, rules and regulations, and socialize the updates with other departments at FPHNYC.
  • Oversee the proper maintenance of the accounting systems and function within her/his portfolio.
  • Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting for federal and state funders, foundations
  • Oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Manage all audits in assigned portfolio (financial reporting, Uniform Guidance, program audits); serve as liaison with contracted auditors. Serve as liaison for any auditors represented funding institutions. Coordinate audits.
  • Advise and assist staff leadership on future financial planning for the programs in her/his portfolio
  • In collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer, keep the ELT apprised of FPHNY project’s financial status.
  • Lead the development of the annual budget for the projects in her/his portfolio.
  • Develop forecasts for the projects
  • Manage staff in the Financial Analysis department
  • Manage contracts in her/his portfolio.
Qualifications
  • BS or BA preferably in accounting or finance.
  • Five or more years of professional experience in an accounting/finance environment, or equivalent experience of managerial accounting preferably in a nonprofit organization with a budget of at least $10 million.
  • Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated grant accounting, compliance, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit tax matters
Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to accounting, auditing and regulatory and general accounting principles and practices
  • K nowledge and understanding of the Office of Management and Budget Circular Uniform Guidance audit.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to compliance to grant specifications
  • Experience working with information technology staff to manage finance and accounting software packages
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills .
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
  • Salary range is $130,000 – $150,000 annually

Additional InformationApplicants must be based in the NYC area and be able to commute to FPHNYC’s office in downtown Manhattan. This position will require a hybrid schedule with at least 2 days a week onsite.
