Futures Without Violence is Hiring a Senior Program Specialist - Advancing Safety through Employment Rights Project Near Washington, DC

**Due to COVID-19, FUTURES is requiring employees to provide proof of full vaccination. This position will be a combination of in-person and remote work based on FUTURES’ current hybrid work policy.**

Senior Program Specialist, Workplace and Economic Justice Team 

Location: Washington D.C.

Full-Time, Exempt Grant-Funded position

Hybrid schedule: Minimum 2 days per week onsite

Up to 10% traveling required

Futures Without Violence (FUTURES) is a national non-profit social change organization that works to end gender-based violence against children, youth, and adults around the world. We’re a team of educators, strategists, fundraisers, trainers and grassroots organizers who develop programs that can change social norms, advance policy, and mobilize people to prevent violence against women and children.

DEPARTMENT AND POSITION

The Senior Program Specialist will provide programmatic support for the Workplaces Respond to Domestic and Sexual Violence National Resource Center, and the Advancing Safety through Employment Rights Project, which is part of the Workplace and Economic Justice Team at FUTURES.

Workplaces Respond is the nation’s only resource center solely dedicated to engaging employers to address the impacts domestic violence, sexual violence and harassment, and stalking has on workers and the workplace. Workplaces Respond provides free resources, consultation, and training curricula to prevent and respond to the impacts of domestic and dating violence, sexual violence and harassment, and stalking in the world of work through culture change aimed at eradicating root causes and risk factors and promoting safety, equity, and trauma-informed workplace policy and practice.

FUTURES new Advancing Safety through Employment Rights Project will develop and implement trainings, technical assistance, and practical tools to build capacity of attorneys and advocates to assist survivors – particularly survivors with disabilities, survivors who are Deaf, and/or LGBTQIA survivors – with the unique challenges they face accessing and utilizing their employment protections thus increasing their safety and security. 

The Senior Program Specialist will work on these exciting, constantly evolving, and cutting-edge projects to help lift up survivor and worker voices, advance model workplace policies and practices, and build the capacity of employers and employees to change social and cultural norms around work in order to promote greater safety, wellbeing, and economic and racial justice in the workplace, especially for Black and Brown women, LGBTQ individuals, and immigrant and low-paid workers. In addition, the Senior Program Specialist will assist the team with the development of online and printed resources and tools, research promising practices, and support the implementation of training and technical assistance to build the capacity of attorneys and advocates to assist survivors – particularly survivors with disabilities, survivors who are Deaf, and/or LGBTQIA survivors – with the unique challenges they face accessing and utilizing their employment protections to increase their safety and security. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Participate in program planning collaboratively with the project team on the following responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain content for online trainings, best practice guides and resources, web assets, and other tools to help employers prevent and respond to the impacts of domestic violence, sexual violence, and stalking on workers in the workplace;
  • Implement worker and survivor-centered model prevention and response workplace programs that employees and employers can utilize to increase awareness, build employee and leadership buy-in, implement educational programs, and develop responsive and supportive policies;
  • Develop and deliver training curricula, and participate in presentations and public speaking engagements, symposiums, briefings, conferences, distance-based learning, and other formats related to program areas and initiatives;
  • Respond to technical assistance (TA) requests (including basic information requests, consultation and strategy development, referrals, and resource sharing) from employers, workers, and survivors.
  • Outreach to and build relationships with relevant stakeholders including employers, professional associations, workers’ rights groups, labor groups, violence against women organizations, government agencies, and other organizations as needed for effective implementation of program objectives;
  • Provide content for the creation of blogs, newsletters and reports to highlight innovative and effective interventions, responses, and policies; relevant research; and new tools developed for the project;
  • Other duties as assigned.

The candidate must demonstrate the confidence to engage with a variety of professionals, from violence prevention advocates to employers, and an ability to creatively problem solve in a constantly evolving program.

  • Bachelor’s degree 5 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education/training and work experience (10 years combined);
  • Experience working on issues related to preventing and ending violence against women, racial equity, and/or advocating for greater economic opportunities for low-wage or vulnerable workers and marginalized communities;
  • Knowledge developing content for and coordinating online education programs;
  • Skill researching and synthesizing best practices to create accessible resources/tools;
  • Highly creative, entrepreneurial, and detail-oriented professional with strong interpersonal skills who works collaboratively as part of a diverse team of dedicated professionals as well as independently as needed;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and creativity in problem-solving;
  • Flexibility, initiative and the ability to multi-task and prioritize competing deadlines;
  • Commitment to social justice causes with an emphasis on preventing and ending domestic and sexual violence and harassment, and promoting racial and gender justice and equity;
  • Command of contemporary computer skills including Microsoft Office suite, Canva, Zoom meeting/webinar and other web-based meeting platforms and/or customer-relationship management (CRM) and learning management systems (such as Canvas and Articulate); proficiency with WordPress preferred, but not required.
  • Spanish speakers are highly encouraged to apply.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work at our Washington, D.C. office, with some travel required.
  • Essential functions of the position require making phone calls, working at a standard computer terminal, and the ability to follow reasonable ergonomic recommendations, sit for long periods, stand, reach, bend, lift, and carry up to 25 pounds.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: 

This is a full-time, exempt position. The pay rate is $82,500/annually. This salary is based on a standardized compensation structure that is transparent across the organization. Please note that the salary is non-negotiable and like all positions at FUTURES, eligible for step increases as part of our commitment to thriving wages for all staff.
