Associate Designer, BCBG Dresses

Success Profile:

The Associate Designer assists in the creation and design for a competitive fashion product line that strikes a balance between relevant commercial product and brand right emotional fashion, that will collectively grow the business according to the brand strategic and financial objectives for the customer.

Reporting to: Designer

Brand/Product Focus: BCBG Dresses

Location (On-Site): New York City, Midtown Manhattan – Fashion District

Key Accountabilities:

Design and Development:

-Sketching new/updated styles following new concepts for developments passed by Design Director

-Logging and assigning new style numbers for developments

-Upon reviewing fabric boards with Design Director, help send emails for sample yardage request to mills

-Help with trouble shooting development trim/fabric emails [initiating sample yardage requests/trim requests/following up on pricing and FDS]

-Build digital Trim/Fabric/Development charts for each development season

-Organize style info for factory costings

-Assist with sending artwork details to CAD designer for new development after reviewing all details w/ Design Director

-Be hands on with organizing style components to pass to sample makers

If samples are being developed locally, being hands on consists of:

referencing the style boards to identify what patterns need to be requested for printing,

what fabrication/ colorway each style will be made in, which goes hand-in-hand with making a shopping list of materials needed]

-Keeping reference self-fabric cuttings organized and labeled

-Being of aide for side projects or request chart assistance from sales team

-Upon receiving new developments, hangtags and style #’s should be tagged onto each sample w/ style # and color way

-Maintaining cleanliness of the design boards and workspace

-Keep tabs of team supplies needed for us all to make 1 compiled supply request when ready.

-Running trim/fabric errands

-Occasionally attend fittings

-Assisting with line review

-Unpacking boxes from daily deliveries

-Organizing clothing rack with new product

-Dressing mannequin with garments to take reference pictures

-Packing and unpacking trunks from appointments

-Tagging garments with style #’s

-Hanging garments on showroom hangers

-Collecting showroom hangers for new products

-Moving full garment racks from Design space to showroom

-Picking up and dropping sample requests to sample rooms

PRODUCTION RELATED TASKs:

-Helping set-up and maintain design tech packs

-Sending color standards to nominated garment factories for production

-Getting more familiar with vendors and garment factories to being able to communicate with them on a daily basis

-Help with reviewing lab dips and bulk approvals. Sending out comments to mills

-Communicating with Design, Sales, Tech, and/or Production team if there is a quality issue

-Pulling bulk fabrics for TECH or PRODUCTION’s review if needed

-Maintaining the production binders/bulk bins organized by season

-If major style changes are made to production styles, email must be sent to the entire team so all is made aware. Firstly, review with Design Director on composing the email before it is sent out

-If garment factories or mills directly asks you questions you are unsure of, please review with me.

-Mailing out bulk cutting references to garment factory

Education and Experience:

· Minimum of Two (2) years of professional design work

· College degree, or equivalent professional work experience, required

· Experience in a high SKU count environment, required

· General understanding of apparel styles, components and construction

· Experience with apparel timelines, calendars, and development process

· Experience in Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop CS, MS Excel, and MS Office Suite

· Strong communication skills, both written and oral

· Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office

Skills and Behaviors:

· Advanced MS Excel skills: data manipulation, pivot tables, v-lookup

· Working knowledge of PLM, Illustrator, Photoshop.

· Strong project management and multi-tasking skills with critical attention to detail

· Confident, engaging verbal and written communication skills

· Motivated to work in a high energy environment at the speed of fashion with ever-changing priorities

· Ability to work independently and work to meet multiple deadlines

· Ability to build and maintain relationships with other departments as well as vendors and other overseas offices

The pay range for this position is: $60k per year $78k per year (Annualized salary is based on a 40 hour work week).
