G is Hiring a Building and Fleet Manager Near Portage, IN

Position Summary: Direct, plan and oversee the activities of fleet vehicles and equipment required for the operations including planning, developing and establishing policies and objectives of the fleet function. Oversees activities concerned with the operation, repair, maintenance, and construction of facilities, equipment, buildings, and grounds.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Fleet and Equipment Management:

Strategically manage records for all fleet vehicles, forklifts, and miscellaneous vehicles, ensuring accurate documentation of schedules vehicle titles, licensing and registration, insurance and related activities.

  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and manage the administrative aspects of fleet and forklift maintenance including biannual DOT filing for GWB and DLI, annual UCR filing, annual IFTA filing, and annual IRP filing.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for trucks, trailers, forklifts and stock chasers to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Analyze fleet and equipment costs to develop fix/repair protocols and make appropriate decisions based on cost/benefit analysis. Researches and selects new and replacement vehicles and equipment for purchase or lease and disposes of obsolete vehicles and equipment.

Facility Goods Procurement:

Strategically procure essential facility goods such as packaging materials and operations supplies, managing inventory levels and vendor relationships to ensure timely, cost-effective procurement.

  • Oversee the purchase and maintenance schedule for lift truck batteries, managing branch repairs, service and supply vendor relationships.

Facility Operations Management:

  • Manages, plans and coordinates activities concerned with the operation, repair, maintenance, and construction of facilities, equipment, buildings and grounds to minimize interruption and improve efficiency.
  • Collaborate with utility companies to ensure seamless coordination for services required by warehouse and branch locations.
  • Plans and oversees new branch set up and remodel processes, ensuring optimal space utilization through accurate planning and design, accounting for efficient workflow, accuracy, speed of service and customer satisfaction.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Stay current with OSHA regulations and local code enforcement, ensuring full compliance across all operations.
  • Implement and manage safety protocols, conducting regular safety audits to maintain a secure working environment.
  • Oversee EPA compliance programs, maintaining current safety and fire protection materials and managing Haz-mat reporting and SDS updates.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience with multi-location warehouse management operations, preferably in distribution. Experience in facility management, fleet operations, logistics, regulatory compliance, or related fields
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate teams, drive initiatives, and adapt to changing priorities with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, particularly in branch setup or remodel processes.
  • Proven track record of implementing and managing safety programs and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations such as OSHA, DOT, and EPA. Certification in OSHA and DOT compliance is a plus.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar software for warehouse layout design a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other relevant software applications
  • Experience with 3rd party fleet management and electronic driver’s logs. Knowledge of OSHA regulations as pertaining to building requirements and commercial delivery vehicles.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working in the HVAC or wholesale distribution industry preferred

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective coordination with internal teams, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to conduct cost analysis, develop equipment specifications, and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping and documentation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of warehouse operations, including inventory management, order processing, and logistics.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to building codes, safety standards, environmental regulations, and transportation laws.
  • Familiarity with commercial construction principles and practices.
  • Understanding of fleet management principles, including preventive maintenance, equipment replacement schedules, and cost management.
  • May have prolonged period of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

  • Must be able to understand and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral form and follow directions.

Working Conditions:

Work in an open office environment with noise and distractions. Travel to branches and due to the open warehouse environment, must be able to work in various indoor climatic conditions including heat, humidity and cold. Maneuvers in small areas and/or around various objects
