IndyStar is seeking an alternative-form digital content producer to help us reach audiences in new ways. As our journalists create incredible articles and visual content, this position will turn them into creative social media posts, videos and unique story formats.
IndyStar is the winner of three Pulitzer Prizes, including in 2021 for national reporting. We recently received a $2 million investment from our parent company, Gannett, to turbocharge local journalism in Central Indiana. You’ll work with and learn from some of journalism’s best while living in a vibrant and diverse city in the heart of the Midwest.
The alternative-form producer will report to the Digital Operations Manager and function as part of the site’s digital team that is focused on audience and social media growth. The position may help curate or write newsletters, pitch and create videos with reporters for use on site and social media, and generally help us tell our story in innovative ways.

• Pitch, create and edit videos for use on social media platforms and on site.
• Curate, promote and monitor performance of daily and weekly newsletters
• Use search and social media trends to pitch and create content that compliments and supplements our coverage

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
• At least two years of professional journalism experience.
• An entrepreneurial approach to growing audience and a dedicated following.
• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to take photos and record video/audio in the field.
• Solid news judgment that’s guided by experience with audience metrics
• Strong sense of journalism ethics and grounding in basics of media law.
• Commitment to reporting with fairness, compassion and sensitivity.
• Command of AP style and dedication to accuracy
• Strong knowledge of social media platforms and best practices
• Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn video production, editing and posting
• Ideal candidate will be comfortable being on camera when necessary

Expected Pay RangeThis is a full-time, hourly position with a pay range of $60,000-$70,000, depending on experience.
