The Consumer Marketing Strategy Director builds and leads the strategic plans to drive subscriber acquisition, increase engagement, and mitigate churn for the Detroit Free Press and the Detroit News in Detroit, MI. The successful candidate will have a keen understanding of the market, collaborate with the news teams on marketing plans, work with various teams to execute the plan, and communicate results to the news and corporate teams.Head of subscription sales and engagement for the Detroit Free Press and Detroit NewsDirect reporting structure to consumer subscription and revenue team with a heavy dotted line to local GMMust be able to work in the Detroit, MI office 60% of the time or as directed by the key manager Base Salary: $105,000 - $120,000 Key Responsibilities:Strategic Collaborative PlannerResponsible to drive volume and revenue by overseeing consumer sales and engagement results for the Detroit Free Press and Detroit NewsDevelop sales and engagement strategic plans including the audience roadmap to drive revenueWork with news teams to incorporate high-performing and trending content into marketing plans Launch marketing programs to support newsroom initiatives that drive subscription growth including newsletters, SMS campaigns, social media platforms, and native appsBe present onsite at key meetingsResponsible for planning, managing, and monitoring social media ads to drive subscription sales or improve engagement of existing subscribers within brand guidelinesEnsure website and ads are functioning as expected for both print and digital subscriptionsCreate and launch in-app campaigns to drive subscriptions or improve engagementCommunicate results with key stakeholdersRespond to changing trends internally and externallyUnderstand the competitive landscape in the market and factors that are impacting growthAdhere to all pricing strategies as defined by Local Revenue and PlanningConnect with social, search, and email teams to stay abreast of most trends and best practicesLead and be present at local events to drive subscriptions, top-of-funnel leads and brand awarenessLearn, understand, and uphold the Joint Operating Agreement Work With Enterprise Team to Optimize Results:Participate proactively in developing and maintaining standards, tools, and best practicesWork with marketing operations to ensure timely execution of sales efforts such as email communication, onsite ads, and other opportunities that drive sales and engagementWork with the analytics team to ensure proper tracking of results and to provide explanations as neededMaintain highlights documentation that will be needed to understand trends including YOY changes and anomalies Education/Certification Requirements Bachelor's Degree5 years of sales and marketing experience2 years of subscription sales experience Experience Required Must be a dynamic leader with a proven track record of evaluating, identifying, and executing strategic opportunities Demonstrated experience collaborating with cross-functional teams History of delivering results and implementing change Specialized Knowledge Required Strategic marketing plannerAbility to derive actionable insights from social media metrics and marketing dataKnowledge and understanding of technology, search, new trends and the latest in social media features Universal Skills Strong collaboratorEffective communicatorSelf-motivated and capable of managing multiple priorities and tasksTeam player with the ability to work within a multi-tiered environmentExcellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work with diverse personality typesCreative and efficient in proposing solutions to time-critical opportunitiesAbility to multi-task and thrive under pressure and deadlines Technology Expertise or ProficiencyProficient with Microsoft Office, Project Management toolsGoogle Analytics#LI-NR2
