Position Summary
The Community Schools Model is a strategy for organizing school and community resources around student success. A Community School is both a place and set of partnerships that help address health, wellness and the social needs of its students, families and the surrounding neighborhoods. Schools become centers of the community, open to everyone, all day, every day, evenings and weekends. Community Schools represent a strategy, not a program. The community school at Strong Vincent Middle School is a collaboration between Gannon University, United Way of Erie County and Erie’s Public Schools, with additional funding support from Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and Reed Manufacturing. A community school utilizes an evidence based model to improve the school and community climate, reducing barriers and improving access to academic and social supports in the Student, Parent, School and District domains. The Community School Coordinator primarily assists in planning, implementing, evaluating and overseeing the delivery of a broad range of programs at Strong Vincent Middle School. The Coordinator is responsible for assuring the safety, supervision, and security of all participating students and out-of-school time providers.
