General Purpose Of JobDeliver any part of a full range of Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) services to program participants, including, but not limited to, determining and documenting eligibility, issuing food instruments (checks), maintaining participant and program records, interviewing, coaching/counseling, providing nutrition education with behavior change goals, and developing individual care plans based on a sound understanding of nutritional concepts.

- Part-time up to 20 hours a week. Eligible for bilingual pay differential.
General Purpose Of JobDeliver any part of a full range of Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) services to program participants, including, but not limited to, determining and documenting eligibility, issuing food instruments (checks), maintaining participant and program records, interviewing, coaching/counseling, providing nutrition education with behavior change goals, and developing individual care plans based on a sound understanding of nutritional concepts.
Essential Job Functions(These duties are illustrative of typical essential responsibilities of the job, and may vary according to assignment)WIC Educator
- Completes WIC training program within established guidelines. Completes WIC Lactation Specialist (WLS)training.
- Determine participants’ financial eligibility for the WIC program.
- Measures and plots accurate anthropometric measurements. Measures hematocrit in blood and assesses adequacy.
- Analyzes diet recalls for adequacy and assigns appropriate risk factors.
- Determine and tailor food packages for individual needs.
- Provides a full explanation of the program to participants to prevent misuse. Explains nutrition risk factors. Explains purpose of the WIC food package and the nutrients provided.
- Provides breast pumps to WIC participants when appropriate along with appropriate education to directly support the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding.
- Refer to other agencies or program RD according to WIC policy.
- Assists participants with individual nutrition education plans; sets appropriate behavior change goals; makes follows-up plan and documents progress toward goals; re-evaluates and establishes new goals as needed.
- Understands retailer requirements, documents requests, and problems from both participants and retailers. Refers problems to appropriate persons as needed.
- Assists in teaching nutrition education classes and provides grocery store tours.
- Provides interpretation for RD high risk counseling.
- Provides client support for the WIC Farmers market and WIC CSA programs.
- Perform emergency response roles, as requested. Perform other duties of a similar or related level as necessary or assigned.
