The special education paraprofessional supervises and monitors students in small group settings and during transitional activities. The instructional special education paraprofessional develops and delivers individual and small group learning activities. The instructional special education paraprofessional may supervise students in an alternative learning setting.
Position Responsibilities: Performs duties under the direction of the special education teacher/special education teamDevelops and delivers individual and small group learning activities to students with IEPsSupervises students with IEPs in alternative learning settingsSupports instructional tasks with individual and small groups of students in a classroom setting, both in a special education classroom and a general education classroomSupervises students with IEPs in various settings and locationsProvides reinforcement for academic and behavioral skillsAssists in the collection of data on students progressAssists students with developmentally appropriate life skills activitiesMay assist with fine motor functions, movement, positioning, etc. May perform functions such as toileting, diapering, feedingMay assist with occupational and physical therapyMay supervise students on school transportationMay participate in multidisciplinary meetings or IEP meetings as requestedParticipates in professional development and training required by the DistrictPerform other duties as requested or assignedRequired Knowledge, Skills & Ability: Knowledge of student disabilities and best practicesAbility to supervisor and monitor students in a variety of settingsAbility to communicate effectivelyAbility to take initiative to complete required tasksDemonstrate cultural competency General computer and office skillsMinimum Qualifications: Associate degree OR matriculation in a four-year education program for a bachelors degreeValid Colorado Driver's LicenseCrisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) is required within two months of hire. CPR and First Aid Certification is required within two months of hire.
