Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary is Hiring an Assistant Director of Technology Operations Near Evanston, IL

Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Technology Operations directs and supervises 2 Systems Administrators and assists the AVP in the management of IT functions and systems operations as well as the delivery of IT services to campus end-users and customers. As second in charge of a Seminary’s Information Technology Department, this position is accountable for the delivery of effective and efficient customer service and IT service management. The Assistant Director of Technology Operations is responsible for the overall management and administration off all IT systems across the Seminary, including network infrastructure, SaaS applications, security and more. You will be responsible for installing, maintaining, supporting computer systems and communication networks, ensuring systems and networks operate optimally to provide maximum performance and availability to users and students/customers.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
  • Six years of relevant IT System Administrator/Network work experience.
  • Four years of management experience
  • Strong application administration experience
  • Strong time-management and people skills, flexibility, and multitasking ability
  • Advanced computer skills and experience with online platforms
  • Proficiency Microsoft Office, with aptitude to learn new software and systems

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) certification preferred.
  • Jenzabar administration experience
  • Previous Cybersecurity experience
  • Previous success in management
  • Engaging personality and optimistic outlook

Essential functions and responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, software, and hardware. Setup and manage servers, workstations, and other network devices.
  • Manage and maintain local area networks (LANs), Wide area networks(WANs), and wireless networks.
  • Configure and manage network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Works in close collaboration with the AVP for Technology in providing leadership, direction, and guidance to staff and managing operational activities to achieve the department’s long and short-range goals and business objectives.
  • Performs regular data backups and ensure data recovery processes are in place.
  • Test backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Assists the AVP in formulating and implementing policies, procedures, and standards. Implements and manages customer support and technical services support models that address and bring resolution to the technical needs of the Seminary.
  • Analyzes, develops, and recommends plans and solutions to operational, management, business process, or seminary-wide telecommunications and operations services including hardware and software activities and associated problems.
  • Identifies opportunities to develop systems that will enhance operational efficiencies; evaluates and recommends new tools and methodologies that will expedite or enhance the operational/development process.
  • Assists in preparing, monitoring, and administering the annual budget for the department, including staffing, equipment, and supplies.
  • Oversees the inventory and reconciliation of all newly procured technology materials and ensures accurate product tracking and delivery to the appropriate requesting department. Maintains detailed and up-to-date records of all campus technology purchases.
  • Works collaboratively to coordinate system availability, performance management, and capacity planning issues; ensures timely, accurate, and prompt turnaround of work orders/requests.
  • Acts on behalf of the AVP for Technology in his/her absence as directed.
