Job Description:
Electron Microscopy Technologies (EMT) is the world leading manufacturer of high-quality instrumentation and software for imaging and analysis in TEM and SEM applications. The Gatan and EDAX names are recognized and respected throughout the worldwide scientific community and has been synonymous with high quality products and the industry&aposs leading technology.
General responsibilities include the management of the production team producing small, precision electro-mechanical assemblies in a low volume, high precision production environment. Coordinating with engineering personnel, purchasing, scheduling, and shipping to ensure reliable execution of production schedule. Responsible for product quality improvements, team performance and development of procedures for new and existing products and processes. Managing department expenses to remain within annual budget.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITES:
  • Provide managerial oversight and technical support to the production team.
  • Identify and implement process improvement and cost optimization efforts.
  • Establish and maintain department budget. Manage activity in an effort to close out the year at or below established budgets.
  • Identify and Support Capital project needs.
  • Analytical problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
  • Develop and implement strategies to meet plant goals. Ensure that department members are properly led, trained, and motivated to meet the goals.
  • Responsible for safe and efficient operations, optimizing plant reliability/asset utilization/operational sustainability, and cost control.
  • Ensure that production plans are executed in terms of quantity, timing and quality to meet customer demands
  • Coordinate with business partners to develop, communicate and implement business plans to meet short and long-term business needs.
  • Work with manufacturing engineering to release new products and resolve issues that may arise.
  • Communicate clearly with various departments regarding pertinent issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associates degree or higher in an Engineering discipline required
  • A combination of formal training and additional years of related experience may be considered in lieu of a formal Engineering-related degree.
  • Five or more years production experience with two or more years operations supervision experience.
  • Analytical problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Strong team leadership skills to lead, direct, and develop personnel.
  • Advanced analytical, statistical, and reasoning skills. Able to quickly analyze and conclude complex data and risks.
  • Proven success at building relationships with customers and within the company.
  • Significant experience in using lean and six sigma practices and principles.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong attention to detail required.
  • Must be able to work under general direction, with the ability to evaluate issues and make independent decisions.
  • Ability to utilize interpersonal and communication techniques, work in a team environment, and deal with a wide variety of personalities and communication styles.
  • Willingness to take on new responsibilities and challenges.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Associates degree or higher in an Engineering discipline required
  • A combination of formal training and additional years of related experience may be considered in lieu of a formal Engineering-related degree
  • At least 10 years of related technical and/or industry experience with a strong mechanical/electrical aptitude required
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment essential
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and Lean manufacturing a plus

  • Will require specific vision abilities that include close vision; distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to utilize a stereo microscope on a regular basis to perform assembly and/or inspection tasks.
  • May be required to lift to 65lbs periodically with assistance as needed.
  • Will be required to handle and utilize various cleaning solvents on a routine basis.
  • Will be required to handle and utilize to various adhesives and sealants on a routine basis.
  • Will be required to handle and utilize liquid nitrogen on a periodic basis.
  • Will be required to operate heat producing devices such as a soldering iron and convection oven.
  • May be required to operate and / or test devices capable of producing high voltages.
  • May be exposed to x-ray producing equipment (Transmission Electron Microscopes) on a limited basis.
