Gateway Developmental Learning Center has a school age program for children starting kindergarten through age 12. We have three school age classrooms. Two rooms are open year-round and used for both before/after school care and break care. During the school year, the two rooms are open in the mornings (6:30-9:00am) and afternoons (3:30-5:30pm) and bus transportation is provided by Anderson Community Schools (ACS) between Gateway and Tenth Street Elementary. The classrooms do stay open for school delays and all day for school closings and breaks. Our third classroom opens all day during ASC breaks (summer, fall, winter, and spring). The Assistant School Age Teachers work with the Lead Teacher to provide consistency for the children. They develop engaging learning activities that encourage the children to problem solve, imagine and create. They interact with the children out on the playground, in the big gym, and in our sensory integration gym. Our teachers model pro-social behavior and teach the children to build positive relationships with peers. The teachers monitor the children to ensure that they get on and off the bus safely. They clean and sanitize the tables before serving meals and snacks to the children. Hours in this position can vary and flex. When the children are in the building for break care, the Assistant Teacher works full-time. When the classrooms are only open for before/after care, the Assistant Techer can work part-time or cross train and continue to work full-time by helping in younger classrooms (preschool, toddler, infant) when the school age children are out of the building. Qualifications: Must be 18 years old or older Must have a high school diploma or GED Preferred: Have or maintain enrollment in a CDA (Child Development Associate), Associate, Bachelors, or Master’s in Early Childhood, Child Development, Early Childhood Special Education, Elementary Education degree or closely related field is preferred. Must maintain current certifications in CPR and First Aid Must maintain current training in Universal Precautions Must pass a 5 phase drug screen Must pass a fingerprint background check through the FBI Must have a current TB test or chest x-ray with negative results Meet continuing education requirements set by state licensing, Paths to Quality, and NAEYC Accreditation
