Senior Tax Accountant JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for the monitoring, accounting, and filing of the bank’s federal and state income taxes, property taxes, franchise taxes and applicable sales taxes.
Senior Tax Accountant ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (RESPONSIBILITIES):
• Prepares federal and state income tax filings, including monthly tax provision calculations and quarterly adjustments between current tax liabilities and deferred tax accounts.
• Develops an organizational plan to ensure timely satisfaction of the Company’s various tax obligations, including franchise taxes to ensure compliance with tax codes.
• Researches technical accounting and income tax related issues.
• Corresponds with the IRS and other tax authorities in order to resolve tax-related issues.
• Works with external auditors and accounting firms on tax related items.
• Researches updates and changes to state and local jurisdiction sales tax rates and product taxability.
• Prepares adjusting journal entries for tax purposes.
• Assists with development of internal controls and best practices in the Company’s accounting department and assists with technical accounting-related projects when requested.
• Exercises awareness with regard to possible suspicious activity, money laundering or fraudulent behavior and reports any such incidents to the BSA department. Performs all job functions in compliance with all company policies and federal, state, and local laws and regulations as applicable to the position, including, but not limited to BSA/AML, OFAC and GLBA/privacy rules.
• Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.
Senior Tax Accountant REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities• Advanced knowledge of tax accounting policies, practices, and procedures.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail skills.
• Ability to handle completion of tasks under the pressure of tight deadlines and flexibility to handle changing priorities.
• Ability to interact with vendors and internal staff.
• Ability to work independently.

Equivalent Education/Experience• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related area.
• 5 years’ experience in tax, accounting, banking, or other financial service.
• Experience in banking industry preferred.
Senior Tax Accountant SPECIAL JOB DIMENSIONS:
This position may require very limited travel up to 5% of travel. Use of judgment and confidentiality along with teamwork, problem-solving and information management skills.
