Gateway School District is seeking a certified Chemistry Teacher to join the Gateway High School team for the 2024-2025 school year!
A person holding a valid Pennsylvania Chemistry certificate is qualified to teach chemistry courses in grades 7 through 12. A person holding this certificate is also qualified to teach this content in the sixth (6th) grade. An educator holding a valid Pennsylvania certificate for Chemistry is qualified to teach courses such as: chemistry, biochemistry, environmental science, organic and inorganic chemistry, physical science, forensic science, and general science.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated
· Plans a program of study according to rules and regulations of the school district that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students
· Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior
· Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
· Provide individual, group and classroom instruction in a manner that is understandable to assigned students in accordance with the required curriculum and to complete the assigned curriculum within the allotted time.
· Receive and understand student statements and questions
· React and/or respond in a timely manner to student statements and questions
· Maintain student discipline and an environment conducive to learning
· Utilize effective teaching strategies and having the ability to change strategies as necessary to be effective for all students in the class
· Utilize required teaching mediums, supplies, books and aids
· Evaluate, grade and record student work and/or progress
· Communicate with parents to review student’s progress, problems and discipline
· Make appropriate referrals for support services
· Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and , in harmony with goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students
· Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved
· Strives to implement, by instruction and action, the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
· Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required
· Diagnose the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required
· Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
· Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation
· Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure
· Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
· Make provision for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
· Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aides and/or volunteers.
· Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
· Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required
· Recognize and react appropriately to disciplinary and emergency situations
· Develop and produce daily lesson plans and required students records Grow professionally by maintaining professional certifications, including earning instructional 2 teaching certificate within first six (6) years of teaching as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and remaining abreast of current developments in education
· Perform the work described herein without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of himself/herself or others

Language Skills

Computer Skills
Demonstrate proficiency with IBM-based or MAC based personal computers and programs such as Windows 95/98/00, Office 97, spreadsheets, database, and presentation programs.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Must have the ability to compute rate, ratios, and percent.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with multiple problems.
