Job Description Summary
The Senior Level Security and Emergency Preparedness Engineer in support of development of an effective security design and implementation of emergency preparedness program for new nuclear power plants (NPP). The role requires experience with development and implementation of security and emergency preparedness requirements and the ability to incorporate design features important to security in light of current and future regulations. This role contributes to the overall security strategy and manages complex issues within design, analyses, construction and modularization of new plant design.
Primary focus areas for Security and Emergency Preparedness includes:
• Knowledge of integrated design processes pertaining to security and
emergency preparedness.
• Establish processes and procedures for new plant design as related to
Emergency Preparedness, Physical Security, and Major Event Mitigation
(B.5.b, SAFER, FLEX).
• Lead team in the New Plant design to ensure development of Severe
Accident Mitigation Guidelines (SAMG) and Emergency Action Levels that
pertain to 10 CFR 50.54 (hh)(2) and 10 CFR 50.150
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Responsible for development, cost estimation, scheduling, detailed design, and implementation of the security systems.
- Design and implementation of security communication system, security range target system upgrade, security Vital Area (VA), Central Alarm Station (CAS) & Secondary Alarm Station (SAS) expansion, and security computer systems.
- Development of security video surveillance, intrusion detection, access control, HVAC and communication sub-systems.
- Extensive knowledge of Safeguards Information (SGI), EP procedures and existing federal regulations.
- Knowledge of federal cyber security requirements.
- Extensive working knowledge of NPP SGI programs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or other relevant Engineering degree from an accredited university or college.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in an Engineering role.
- Minimum 8 years of experience on Security Systems Design.
Desired Characteristics
- Knowledge of Plant Systems and Components design experience in a Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) or Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR).
- Knowledge of Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) utility operations and maintenance.
- Experience with NPP Operations and Maintenance (O&M) and In-Service Inspection (ISI) requirements.
- Working knowledge of HVAC, Fire Protection & train divisional separation requirements.
- Working knowledge of Radiologically Controlled Areas (RCA) and Health Physics (HP) requirements.
- Ability to effectively collaborate between cross-functional engineering design teams.
- Ability to effectively function in a dynamic design environment, manage the demands of multiple tasks and projects, while maintaining an uncompromised commitment to personal and nuclear safety principles.
The salary range for this position is $112-160k. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus.
