Description

Gelest, Inc., part of the Mitsubishi Chemical Group, is seeking a qualified individual to join our small and large-scale production operations as a Process Operator- Microparticles. The Process Operator-Microparticles must possess the knowledge and ability to perform all duties associated with the production of surface treated powders from lab to production scale. 

Responsibilities:

This position requires the following physical and mental demands consisting of, but not limited to the following:

• Follow written and verbal instructions in order to produce surface treated powders in a safe efficient manner.

• Prepare lab /pilot/production scale batches of surface modified powders from start to finish, including clean up.

• Make and apply observations recommendations to assist in process development.

• Operation and cleaning of various pieces of lab, pilot production and support equipment including: Laboratory and production balances and scales, lab mixers, ribbon blenders, hammer mill, instruments for routine physical measurements, forklifts and other equipment as needed.

• Write legibly to maintain laboratory notebooks, production batch sheets, regulatory logs, and other paperwork as required.

• Package products to be shipped to customers.

• Assist in the maintenance of storage areas and other common areas within the facility.

• Interface with Inventory Control to obtain needed raw materials. Gather, sign out, and sign in raw materials.

• Sign in finished products.

• Participate in process review and safety meetings.

• Support organizations goals and values.

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent, some college chemistry course is preferred.

• Experience in a lab environment or experience in powder/microparticle handling and treatment is a plus.

• Math skills to perform batch calculations.

• Must be capable of understanding written instructions and record process observations

• Position is subject to a production plant environment, noise, vibration, hazards, hot and cold atmospheric conditions and wearing a respirator when required.

• Mechanical aptitude.

• Basic computer skills; ability to learn to use required software.

• Work in a team setting and exchange information regarding processes with others.

• Understand the guidelines regarding the safe handling, shipping, and storage of materials.

• Wear a respirator and Personal Protective Equipment as needed is required

• Frequent lifting of up to and over 50 lbs. 

• Must be able to push a drum truck, use industrial equipment to tip over drums and climb stairs and ladders.

• Walking/Bending/Reaching/Continuous standing.

• Able to operate or learn to operate a forklift.

• Able to respond to alarms, be aware of fire, safety and chemical hazards.

• Able to read instructions, SDS and interpret packaging codes.

• Responsible for operating various hand tools and pumps in a safe manner.

• Ability to work shift work.
