GEM Technologies Inc. is Hiring a Nuclear Operator Apprentice Near Los Alamos, NM

GEM Technologies, Inc. (GEM) is seeking a Nuclear Operator Apprentice to join our team. This position is full-time and will support N3B in Los Alamos, NM.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma and <1 year of relevant experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA on all academic studies.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 15% of work-related hours for outside education.
  • Must be willing to work a variety of shifts (i.e. 8-hour days, 9-hour days, or 10-hour days (not to exceed 80 hours in a 2-week time period).
  • Must have the ability to pass and maintain all physical qualifications as required by the Department of Energy (DOE) Order 426.2, and N3B.
  • Effective interpersonal skills (e.g., ability to work as part of a team, communicate effectively, work/interact effectively and amicably with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures).
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey thoughts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Will require submission of Letter of Recommendation from a non-family member & a Letter of Interest.

Uncleared - Must be able to obtain and maintain a Clearance

Overview:
  • Responsible for safe and compliant operations of a nuclear facility which includes proper handling, packaging, and treatment of hazardous and radioactive waste, in addition to accurately documenting waste that exhibits chemical and radiological hazards.
  • Work is executed safely and compliantly in accordance with detailed procedures.
  • Routine interaction with various personnel in coordinating characterization, certification, and disposition of waste items and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements with regard to receipt, storage and disposal of waste items.
  • Work is performed in a complex environment involving radiological control and security areas.
  • Work is both inside and outside of buildings in varying weather conditions.
Clearance & Citizenship Requirement:
  • To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • Due to the federal nature of the work, a U.S. Citizenship is required.
About the Site:

N3B manages the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract for the U.S. Department of Energy Environmental Management’s Los Alamos Field Office, which is responsible for cleaning up contamination that resulted from LANL operations before 1999 and packaging and shipping radioactive and hazardous waste off-site for permanent disposal (n3b-la.com).
