Job DescriptionOverall Summary:The Supervisor of Operations II leads department employees and completes all job orders efficiently and profitably. They ensure that the department meets or exceeds production objectives and develop a thorough understanding of their direct reports. Supervisory Responsibilities:The person in this role will lead and manage a team of technically skilled employees. Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Ensure employee compliance with company safety policies and create an accurate resolution or counter measure.
Oversee the operations, set-up, repair and maintenance of production equipment.
Direct and lead the team, establishing standards of performance to measure and manage against responsibilities and accountabilities.
Meet department measurement goals, including waste reduction, billable hours, utilization improvement, spoilage, and rework.
Approve color for color critical clients when applicable.
Ensure the tooling is ready and available for production as needed.
Maintain ink and glue inventory levels.
Report excessive machine downtime and collaborate with department manager to achieve corrective action.
Serve as the technical expert and resource on assigned projects.
Support and provide technical guidance to further enhance the efficient use of reliable troubleshooting methods to ensure uptime, production volume and quality goals are met.
Consult with business users and content providers regarding technical design, requests for modifications, and problem resolution.
Make day-to-day decisions within the department.
Partner with employees to ensure shift metrics are met or exceeded.
Maintain an active presence on the production floor to foster a cooperative and harmonious working environment; maximize employee morale and productivity.
Establish innovative, cost-effective, and proactive methods to serve customers and meet goals.
Ensure projects and goals are met while adhering to approved budgets.
Schedule staff according to workload and productivity goals; adjust workflow, team responsibilities, shift inventories, and equipment maintenance as necessary.
Ensure all quality and color standards and procedures are followed; identify and address opportunities to improve quality and reduce rework toward key objective of zero defects.
Oversee set-ups to reduce change times.
Maintain weekly department production reports as needed.
Ensure compliance with all state and federal environmental, safety, and health regulations.
Assist department manager in identifying staffing level plan.
Assist department manager in identifying and evaluating equipment to meet strategic initiatives.
Communicate effectively with managers and supervisors in other facilities; collaborate to reach or exceed planned profit margins.
Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
Coach and develop direct reports.
Enable team to cross train in other areas to support their career path.
Perform daily payroll functions; make applicable corrections, enter and manage PTO for direct reports.
Perform other (or other related) duties as applicable or assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
Fundamental English reading and writing skills.
Microsoft Office Suite proficiency; Foundation experience a plus.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated well-developed strategic thinking.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Bilingual is a plus.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in manufacturing field or business a plus.
2 years’ proven supervisory experience in a manufacturing capacity, preferably with a background in the direct mail industry.
Previous participation on a safety team and/or other safety training preferred.
Lean/Six Sigma experience a plus.
2 wo years post-secondary education in mechanical, electronics and/or electrical equipment repair preferred.
5 years’ experience or equivalent in mechanical, electronics and/or electrical equipment repair preferably within direct mail equipment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work 8-hours consecutively
Flexibility to work additional hours as needed to support a 24/7 production operation.
Ability to provide after-hours support as needed.
Ability to maintain an active physical presence on the production floor.
Standard climate-controlled production environment; exposure to loud noise (PPE is provided).
Ability to lift, carry and push/pull up to 35 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, pivot, crouch, squat, kneel, and stoop for up to 12 hours.
Upper extremity motion requirements: fine motor movements, pushing/pulling with arms, grasping and pinching.
