Hospitality Project Services has an opening for an experienced Construction Cost Accountant with 1-3 years’ experience in construction accounting with a medium to large construction and/or development company. Position is with a growing Construction Division specializing in Hotel Development and Renovation in the Midwest and Southeastern United States.
Position Purpose:
The Construction Cost Accountant will perform professional level accounting work in the maintenance and review of accounting process and procedures. The position requires considerable knowledge of basic accounting principles and accounting functions. This individual will be responsible for the general ledger, job cost, bank reconciliations, accounts receivable and accounts payable. Additional responsibilities include performing monthly closings, maintenance of accounting files, and preparation/organization of various financial forms, reports, and financial analyses, etc. This individual may be asked to assist with ad-hoc projects and general office support tasks when necessary. Individual will be reporting to the Finance department and working with the Executive Team, Project Managers, Procurement, Construction Controller, and other accounting staff as necessary.
Examples of Duties:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Handle and process all aspects of construction payables, including coding, processing contract award work sheets and maintenance of the job cost chart of accounts.
  • Process contractor’s payment applications for monthly billings after receiving required approvals.
  • Prepare AIA pay applications and Subcontractor Invoices
  • Perform monthly close and related journal entries.
  • Maintain required records, filings, reports
  • Monthly reporting and review of job cost activity ensuring consistent and proper coding.
Specific Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability:
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
  • Must have considerable knowledge of basic accounting principles (i.e., journal entries, debits, credits, etc.) and accounting functions. Job cost and construction experience will be key for this position.
  • Help with development, implementation, and maintaining Project Management software system, including setting up projects (jobs), budgets, job costs, cost codes, contracts, change orders, purchase orders, and various construction progress reports.
  • Ability to work independently and complete duties and projects timely.
  • Ability to access and accurately input information to meet stated deadlines.
  • Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office 360 (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
Experience with Sage or ComputerEase is preferred.
Qualifications and Standards
Education:
B.S. in Accounting or another related field. Experience may be considered as a substitute for this requirement.
Experience:
  • Prefer at least 1-3 years of accounting experience working with Construction Accounting Software.
  • Background in construction accounting.
