Summary: The purpose of the Registered Nurse in a GHO IRA is to maintain the medical and health needs of the men and women who live in the residence and to supervise all medication administration activities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
· Supervise medication administration activities in the IRA. This shall include but not be limited to, evaluating self-medication capabilities of individuals, recertifying AMAPs annually and providing periodic training and observation as needed. Conduct and document semiannual medication review, review medication administration records, inspect and maintain medication storage cabinet. Discard medications as appropriate. Prepare medication records.
· Maintain ongoing Nurse’s notes detailing medical and health concerns of individuals.
· Provide annual, monthly, and semiannual medical and health information to the Service Coordinators for annual and semiannual ISP meetings.
· Maintain medical and health records of individuals.
· Provide in-service training to program staff and individuals. Such trainings shall include, but not limited to, infection control, preventing the infection and spread of communicable diseases, basic first aid, signs and symptoms of illness, specific health and medical needs of the individuals served.
· Attend annual and semiannual ISP meetings.
· Communicate with program management and health care providers to ensure quality of care and that individuals needs are being addressed in a timely manner.
· Maintain an adequate supply of medical and health equipment and materials in the facilities specific to the needs of the individuals.
· Supervise infection control practices at the facilities/
· Serve on GHO Internal Agency if needed.
· Attend supervision sessions and staff training as scheduled.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· Licensure as a Registered Nurse. (Note: Documentation of a current license must be provided and maintained on file at the facility.)
· At least three years’ experience working with developmentally disabled population required.
Required Trainings: New Employee Orientation, Intro to Developmental Disabilities, HIPAA/Privacy & Confidentiality, and any other assigned training.
Physical Activities: The basic responsibility of all GHO employees is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the individuals at all times. The minimum physical requirements listed reflect major physical activities working at GHO. Requirements, skills, and abilities included have been determined to be minimal standards required to successfully perform the position. In no instance, however, should the duties, responsibilities, and requirements delineated be interpreted as all inclusive. Additional functions and requirements may be assigned by supervisors as deemed appropriate.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, and kneel.
- Able to employ OPWDD’s Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention Techniques (SCIP) when situations require the techniques used.
- Ability to effectively perform necessary lifesaving techniques such as CPR, First Aid, and Heimlich Maneuver when situations arise.
- Requires normal finger dexterity to type and pick up routine office materials and tools in the office.
- Ability to respond and react to fire drills and fire evaluation.
· Mental Efforts:
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed instructions and to deal with problems.
- Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, an dividing, at an eighth grade level.
- Ability to communicate in complex sentences and write sentences using proper adjectives and adverbs at a college graduate level.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents and information appropriate to the job.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from others.
- Ability to multi-task, analyze, and prioritize work duties and assignments.
